APEDA Facilitates First Sea Export of Banganapalle Mangoes

The Agricultural and Processed Food Products Export Development Authority (APEDA) facilitated the first commercial sea shipment of premium Banganapalle mangoes from India to Singapore on 25 June 2026. The consignment weighed 5 metric tonnes and was exported by Osum Food Solutions LLP.

Banganapalle Mango

Banganapalle is a mango variety associated with Andhra Pradesh and is known in trade as a premium fresh fruit. The variety is also called Benishan in some markets and is one of the well-known Indian mango cultivars for export.

Sea Freight in Fresh Fruit Export

The mangoes were dispatched from India on 11 June 2026 and arrived in Singapore on 24 June 2026. Sea freight is used for bulk horticultural exports because refrigerated containers can maintain temperature and humidity during transit.

Production, Processing and Certification

The mangoes were sourced from Good Agricultural Practices-certified orchards in Andhra Pradesh and processed at an APEDA-recognised packhouse in Karnataka. The initiative was undertaken with the ICAR–Central Institute for Subtropical Horticulture, Lucknow, which works on subtropical fruit research and post-harvest handling.

Trade and Price Realisation

The Singapore export enabled farmers to receive about INR 50 per kilogram, compared with the domestic market price of INR 25-26 per kilogram. EC-Links Pte Ltd acted as the Singaporean importer for the shipment.

Post-Harvest Handling

The shipment arrived in excellent condition, with uniform ripening, sweetness and shelf life recorded by the importer. Cold-chain infrastructure and scientific handling practices are used in fresh fruit exports to reduce spoilage and preserve quality.
