MoHUA calls for holistic planning for pedestrian-friendly market spaces in cities

The Ministry of Housing & Urban Affairs (MoHUA) has recommended holistic planning for pedestrian friendly market spaces in various cities and municipal areas in the country in consultation with stake holders. The advisory issued by MoHUA to all states/cities/municipal corporations has also suggested the million plus cities to select at least three market places for pedestrianisation & non-million plus cities to select at least one market area for pedestrianisation in market places.

Home Ministry reconstitutes committee to look into the welfare of freedom fighters

The Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) has reconstituted a committee to look into the welfare of freedom fighters, with the minister of state for home affairs G Kishan Reddy as the chairman and nine “eminent freedom fighters” from across the country as its members. The ministry disburses pension to about 30,000 freedom fighters and their families.

Finance Ministry proposes to decriminalise minor offences under 19 legislations

The Finance Ministry has proposed to decriminalise a host of minor offences, including those relating to cheque bounce and repayment of loans, in as many as 19 legislations to help businesses tide over the crisis caused by the coronavirus outbreak. The 19 legislations include Negotiable Instruments Act (cheque bounce), SARFAESI Act (repayment of bank loans), LIC Act, PFRDA Act, RBI Act, NHB Act, Banking Regulation Act and Chit Funds Act. The Ministry has invited comments of stakeholders by June 23 on 19 legislations.

S&P retains India’s sovereign rating at ‘BBB-‘; keeps outlook stable

S&P on June 10, 2020 retained India’s sovereign rating at ‘BBB-‘ with a stable outlook, saying that while risks to growth are rising, the economy and fiscal position will stabilise and begin to recover from 2021 onwards. India’s long-term rating was affirmed at ‘BBB-‘ with a stable outlook while the short-term rating was held at ‘A-3’.

Indian economy to bounce back with growth of 9.5% in 2021-22: Fitch Ratings

After a contraction in the current financial year, India’s economy is forecast to bounce back with a sharp growth rate of 9.5 per cent next year provided it avoids further deterioration in financial sector health, Fitch Ratings said on June 10, 2020.

ED brings back ₹1,350 crore worth consignment of Nirav Modi, Mehul Choksi firms

The Enforcement Directorate (ED) has brought back from Hong Kong 108 consignments of precious gems and jewellery, with a declared value of ₹1,350 crore, in connection with the Punjab National Bank (PNB) fraud case. The consignments belonged to various entities of Nirav Modi and his uncle Mehul Choksi, based in the United Arab Emirates and Hong Kong.
