About Khajuraho

It is a group of Hindu and Jain temples. They were built in 1000 CE during the Chandela dynasty. There were more than 85 temples in Chandela times. Unfortunately, only 12 of these temples survived. The Kandariya Mahadeva Temple is one of the 12 temples that survived. This temple has various symbols and exhibits the richness of Indian art.

Significance of KHAJURAHO

The temples were built by Brahmacharis. They were built at the same time. However, after completion were dedicated to both Hinduism and Jainism. This depicts India’s acceptance of different religions since medieval times.

Chandela Dynasty

They ruled the Bundelkhand region. They belonged to the Rajputs clan.
