IndiaSkills 2021

The India Skills competition is conducted by the National Skill Development Corporation (NSDC). It is held once in two years. The competition is held in multiple locations. The 2021 India Skills competition is held in Pragati Maidan, Mumbai, Bengaluru and several other locations. It was commenced at Talkatora Indoor Stadium located in New Delhi.

About India Skills 2021

In 2021, the NSDC is organizing more than fifty skill competitions. It includes welding, cyber security, painting, floristry, additive manufacturing, patisserie and others. It also included Abilympics. Abilympics is skill demonstrations by physically disabled persons.

It is country’s biggest skill competition. The winners of India Skills 2021 will participate in World Skills competition. The World Skills competition is to be held in Shanghai, China in 2022. The winners will compete against 1500 participants from 60 different countries. The World Skills competition is called “Olympics of Skills”.

Why is India Skills important?

To provide opportunity and platform to the emerging professionals to exhibit their skills. It facilitates cooperation among industries, governments and academicians. It helps the youths earn international recognition and reputation.

World Skills India

It operates under NSDC of Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship. The World Skills India expert group is responsible to create Team India that participates in World Skills competition.

Role of NSDC in India Skills competition

It acts as a secretariat to the World Skills India and India Skills expert team. It creates and establishes linkages among different stakeholders participating in the competition.

Need for India Skills competition

According to the United Nations Development Programme, only 21.1% of the labour force of India are skilled. The unemployment rate in India in December 2021 was 7.91% according to CMIE (Centre for Monitoring Indian Economy). The skill development in India is facing several challenges. They are caste-based issues, lack of state government participation, absence of micro level studies. The competition removes all such hurdles. It gives importance only to the talents of the participants.
