The Ministry of Finance approved a series of welfare measures for the benefit of Life Insurance Corporation of India (LIC) agents and employees.
The welfare measures are related to the amendments to LIC (Agents) Regulations, 2017, Enhancement of Gratuity Limit, and Uniform Rate of Family Pension among others. It will benefit more than 13 lakhs agents and more than 1 lakh regular employees.

Notes:
The European Commission President vowed a 10-point EU action plan to help Italian island of Lampedusa, which includes using the EU’s external borders agency to identify migrants arriving and repatriate those not eligible for asylum.
Nearly 126,000 migrants have arrived in Italy just this year, which is almost double the figure by the same date in 2022.

India’s Neeraj Chopra finished second in the men’s javelin throw event at the Diamond League 2023 Final in Eugene, Oregon, with a best effort of 83.80m.
Neeraj Chopra became the first Indian to win a Diamond League Trophy last year. Czech Republic’s Jakub Vadlejch, the 2016 and 2017 Diamond League champion, won his third title with a best throw of 84.24m.

Spanish motorsports racing driver Carlos Sainz led from start to finish to win the Singapore Grand Prix tournament.
Lando Norris was second in a McLaren with Lewis Hamilton crossing the line in third. Championship leader Max Verstappen was fifth as Red Bull failed to win a race for the first time this season.

The Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS), the National Standards Body of India, has announced that it has established 6467 Standard Clubs in schools and colleges across the country.
As per BIS the standard clubs are being established with an objective to sensitize young members of society about the importance of standards in improving quality of life.

The Indian Navy has submitted a proposal to the government for the construction of its second indigenous aircraft carrier, known as the Indigenous Aircraft Carrier-2 (IAC-2).
Cochin Shipyard Ltd (CSL) delivered the first indigenously built Aircraft Carrier (IAC-1) INS Vikrant to the Indian Navy in July 2022.

A new report from the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) has focussed on the health and economic consequences of antimicrobial resistance (AMR).
Titled “Embracing a One Health Framework to Fight Antimicrobial Resistance,” the report provides fresh evidence of the global impact of AMR and offers recommendations to combat it. The report reveals that the consumption of antibiotics in humans has been increasing, especially in G20 countries.

The Union Minister of Ports, Shipping and Waterways Sarbananda Sonowal inaugurated the maiden edition of ‘Bharatiya Prakash Sthamb Utsav’ or Indian Lighthouse Festival at the historic Fort Aguada in Panjim, Goa.
This festival is part of a vision to transform 75 lighthouses across India into thriving tourist hubs.

PhonePe announced the launch of Indus Appstore developer platform, as a Made-in-India app store. At present, the app developers work with only the Google Playstore.
For startups and new app launches, Indus Appstore will have a dedicated destination called ‘Launch Pad’ to provide these new apps with better visibility.

Union Minister of Chemicals and Fertilizers launched the National Policy on Research and Development and Innovation in Pharma-MedTech Sector in India and Scheme for promotion of Research and Innovation in Pharma MedTech Sector (PRIP).
It is also proposed to set up an Indian Council of Pharmaceuticals and Med-tech Research and Development to facilitate and promote collaboration among industry, academia and research institutions.
