Notes:
The Railway Board in India has significantly increased ex-gratia payments for victims of train accidents and untoward incidents. The ex-gratia relief amounts, last revised in 2012 and 2013, have been increased by tenfold.
The circular states that relatives of deceased passengers in train accidents and manned level crossing accidents will now receive Rs 5 lakh, while grievously injured passengers will be awarded Rs 2.5 lakh. Passengers with simple injuries will receive Rs 50,000. Previously, these amounts were much lower, at Rs 50,000, Rs 25,000, and Rs 5,000, respectively.

The Assam government launched a new scheme called “Mukhyamantrir Atmanirbharshil Asom Abhiyan.”
This scheme aims to provide financial assistance of Rs. 2 lakh each to two lakh young individuals, fostering self-reliance and economic independence among the state’s youth. The registration process for the program is scheduled to commence by September end.

Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) consulted stakeholders on ‘National Broadcasting Policy’.
As per TRAI, the Policy may provide a common approach for licenses, oversight, and compliances. The government is seeking to bring further parity in how digital and legacy mediums like television and OTT streaming are regulated.

The Indian Navy and the Indian Institute of Science (IISc), Bengaluru, have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to collaborate on technical research and development in various engineering fields related to defense technologies.
The MoU aims to promote academic cooperation, enhance scientific understanding, and facilitate capacity building, equipment development, and faculty exchange between the two organizations.

In 2011, the Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment established the Indian Sign Language Research and Training Center (ISLRTC) as an autonomous center of IGNOU.
ISLRTC has launched an online self-learning course in Indian Sign Language and a comprehensive dictionary containing 10,000 ISL terms on the International Day of Sign Languages. It introduced an initiative by launching 260 signs for financial terms in ISL.

The Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) has issued recommendations for bolstering telecom infrastructure in Northeast.
TRAI noted that there is still a lack of high-speed mobile-based internet and fixed broadband connectivity, mainly due to the inadequate transmission bandwidth (optical fibre, Microwave and satellite).

Arvind Singh and Arjun Lal Jat won India’s first medal of the 2023 Hangzhou Asian Games with a silver in the men’s lightweight double sculls.
At Tokyo 2020, this duo finished 11^th, which is India’s best-ever finish in Olympics rowing. Later, Babu Lal Yadav and Lekh Ram won bronze in the men’s pair final.

The Department of Drinking Water and Sanitation of Ministry of Jal Shakti has introduced the Unified Registration Portal for GOBARdhan to simplify the process of registering Compressed Bio-Gas (CBG) and biogas facilities across the country.
Currently, there are more than 1,163 biogas plants and 426 CBG plants registered on the portal, making them eligible for support through the Market Development Assistance (MDA) scheme offered by the Department of Fertilizers.

The 359th Report on the Functioning of Archaeological Survey of India has recommended ‘rationalising’ protected monuments, and rules governing them.
It has also prompted inquiries into the operational aspects of the Archaeological Survey of India (ASI), the entity responsible for overseeing all Cultural Property Museums (CPMs) in India, including its management, security measures, preservation efforts, and the overall maintenance of historical sites.

Notes:
Max Verstappen won the Japanese Grand Prix by a comfortable margin to seal Red Bull’s second consecutive Constructors’ Championship.
The McLaren duo of Lando Norris and Oscar Piastri followed Verstappen in the second and third positions.
