The West Bengal Legislative Assembly passed a resolution declaring ‘Poila Baisakh’, the first day of the Bengali calendar, as ‘Bangla Dibas’ or West Bengal Foundation Day.
The resolution was passed after a debate in the Assembly, with 167 MLAs voting in support of the resolution and 62 MLAs opposing the motion.

Andhra Pradesh Governor S Abdul Nazeer has unveiled six special postal covers in tribute to  Alluri Sitarama Raju. These commemorative postal covers mark the centenary of the Chilli Post, issued by the Department of Posts as part of the Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav celebrations.
Alluri Sitarama Raju’s unique method of sending advance messages to officials, using arrows with attached messages and chili peppers, became known as the “CHILLI POST.” The Rampa Rebellion, initiated by Alluri in 1922 with tribal support, continued until 1927 when Alluri martyred himself.

The Uttar Pradesh State Institute of Education (SIE) has come up with a first-of-its-kind dialects dictionary containing 76,000 words in regional dialects/languages of the State like Bhojpuri, Awadhi, Braj and Bundelkhandi.
This initiative aims to conserve regional dialects of the State and also aims to remove linguistic barriers across various parts of the state.

The Indo-Australian tennis pair Rohan Bopanna-Matthew Ebden lost to the defending US Open men’s doubles champions Rajeev Ram-Joe Salisbury, in the finals of US Open.
Rajeev Ram and Joe Salisbury became the first men’s doubles team at the US Open to achieve a three-peat in more than 90 years.

Minister of State for Social Justice and Empowerment has unveiled five groundbreaking initiatives including the PM Daksh-DEPwD portal for skill training and employment opportunities, the release of anonymous data through the Unique Disability ID (UDID) portal, collaboration with the Council of Architecture for universal accessibility courses.
It includes a compilation of disability rights court judgments, and an online case monitoring portal by the Chief Commissioner for Persons with Disabilities (CCPD).

The International Tribunal for the Law of the Sea (ITLOS) will hear a groundbreaking case brought by nine small island states seeking to protect the world’s oceans from the devastating impacts of climate change. It was founded in 1982 in Jamaica.
These nations have turned to ITLOS to determine whether carbon dioxide emissions absorbed by the oceans can be considered pollution and, if so, what obligations countries have to prevent it. Ocean ecosystems play a vital role in oxygen production and carbon absorption, but increasing emissions can harm marine life by warming and acidifying seawaters.

India and the UK have announced the launch of an infrastructure financing bridge to facilitate major infrastructure projects, as revealed by India’s Finance Minister, Nirmala Sitharaman.
The two nations have also agreed to conduct investment negotiations concurrently with goods negotiations as part of their free trade agreement (FTA) discussions.

The Manipur Cabinet approved a permanent housing scheme for displaced people and extended the ‘disturbed area’ status of the State.
The State Cabinet also approves the extension of the ‘disturbed area’ status and condemns the ‘unwanted actions’ of the Central security forces on civilians.

Australian batter David Warner surpassed Sachin Tendulkar to become the opener with the most number of centuries in international cricket.
The 36-year-old batter accomplished this milestone against South Africa in the second ODI. This is Warner’s 46th international century, the most by an opener.

Tamil Nadu’s Vithya Ramraj has won the women’s 400m in a personal best 52.40s at the Indian Grand Prix-5 athletics in Chandigarh.
Himanshi, the fastest quarter-miler in the Asiad relay team with her 51.76s at the recent inter-State Nationals in Bhubaneswar, could only finish 15th overall.
