Notes:
The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) government and Fukuoka Prefecture in Japan has recently signed a friendship agreement for cooperation in various fields including environment, cultural exchange, education, tourism and heritage, and air pollution. Chief Minister of Delhi Arvind Kejriwal and Governor of Fukuoka Hiroshi Ogawa represented the two governments. The two cities signed this agreement for three years, with effect from April 2017, till 2020. The first MoU/Friendship Agreement between Delhi and Fukuoka was signed in March 2005 and was done for the second time in March 2012.

P.P. Chaudhary, the Union Minister of State for Law and Justice & Corporate Affairs, was conferred the Honorary Fellowship of Institute of Company secretaries of India (ICSI) at the headquarters of the institute at New Delhi on January 18, 2018. Chaudhary has conducted around 11,000 cases, mostly Constitutional Litigations for the last 38 years on matters related to land acquisition, farmers grievances, labour & service, central excise & customs and PILs related to restoration of natural water bodies and dams. The Honorary Fellow Membership is granted to distinguished persons having made significant contribution to the profession of Company Secretaries.

Sanjay Manjrekar, the former India batsman-turned-commentator, has launched his autobiography ‘Imperfect’ in Mumbai, Maharashtra on January 17, 2018. The book was released by Dilip Vengsarkar, Manjrekar’s first international captain. He has played 37 Test matches. His first Test match was in the Delhi against the West Indies. In 1996, in his early thirties, he finished his career with an average of 37, with four centuries, in Ahmedabad in 1996. He was clear to accept that after the middle-order pressure increased between Rahul Dravid and Sourav Ganguly, they came out of their self-imposed exits.

Maharashtra has become the India’s first state to launch Public Cloud Policy, which will allow all government departments to access public cloud. . The step will create business opportunities worth $2 billion while helping the state government departments to shift all their data to clouds. This will accelerate e-governance and open up entire new area for investment by the private entrepreneurs to make available newest technologies for all the departments as government not only is the biggest data creator but also consumer.

The Central Institute of Road Transport (CIRT) is located in Pune, Maharashtra. It was established in 1967 on the joint initiative of the Ministry of Shipping & Transport & the Association of State Road Transport Undertakings (ASTRU). It is a nodal agency, known to be only one of its kind, providing a platform for higher research and training on road transportation and assists in testing, guidance and consultancy in the field.

Soloman Deksisa from Ethiopia has won the 15th edition of Tata Mumbai Marathon in men’s category on January 22, 2018. It is the richest race in India with a prize money worth 4 lakh 5,000 dollars. Another Ethiopian, Shumit Akalnaw became the first runner-up, while Joshua Kipkorir from Kenya came second. Meanwhile, Indian Olympic athlete T Gopi won the Mumbai Marathon in the Indian Elite category and Sudha Singh of Central Railways won in the Indian Elite Women category. Beside this, Amane Gobena from Ethiopia has won the Mumbai Marathon in women’s category.

‘Hindi Medium’, directed by Saket Chaudhary, has bagged honours in the categories of Best Film and Best Actor in a Leading Role (Male) for Irrfan Khan’s impeccable performance at the 63rd Jio Filmfare Awards 2018. Vidya Balan won her career’s 6th Filmfare award for her passionate portrayal of a middle-aged homemaker who turns into a radio jockey in ‘Tumhari Sulu’ as she claimed the Black Lady for the Best Actor in a Leading Role (Female). Ashwiny Iyer Tiwari has won the Best Director award for ‘Bareilly Ki Barfi’. The ceremony was held on 20 January 2018 and hosted by Shah Rukh Khan and Karan Johar.

The 48th annual meeting of the World Economic Forum (WEF-2018) has started in Davos, Switzerland on January 22, 2018. Prime Minister Narendra Modi is leading the largest-ever Indian delegation. The theme of the 5-day summit is ‘Creating a Shared Future in a Fractured World’, which aims to set an agenda to address political, economic and Social challenges of recent times. More than 3,000 world leaders from business, politics, art, academia and civil society would be participating in the summit and the Indian presence is the largest ever with over 130 participants.

The 2018 ICC Women’s World Twenty20 will be hosted by West Indies from 9 to 24 November 2018. The preliminary round matches will be held at the Guyana National Stadium and Daren Sammy Stadium in St Lucia, while Sir Vivian Richards Stadium in Antigua and Barbuda will stage the two semi-finals and the final. Hosts Windies will defend the title they won with an eight-wicket victory over Australia in Kolkata in 2016.

Bollywood superstar Shah Rukh Khan was honoured with the 24th Crystal Award at the World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland. He received the award for his leadership in championing children’s and women’s rights in India. Shahrukh received the award alongside Elton John and Hollywood actress Cate Blanchett.
