More than 2,000 Anganwadi Centres have been made functional in Particularly Vulnerable Tribal Group (PVTG) areas under the scheme. The initiative aims to empower tribal communities at the last mile through better access to nutrition, education, and child care services.

Foresters at Kali Tiger Reserve in Uttara Kannada district, Karnataka, recently recorded the rare sighting of a striped hyena, locally known as katte kiruba. Kali Tiger Reserve is located in the biologically rich Western Ghats. The reserve comprises the Dandeli Wildlife Sanctuary and Anshi National Park. These two protected areas are contiguous, forming a single continuous habitat. The Kali River flows through the reserve and serves as the main water source for Uttara Kannada district. The reserve is named after the Kali River.

The Indian Air Force (IAF) is participating in Exercise Ocean Sky 2025, a multinational air combat exercise hosted by the Spanish Air Force at Gando Air Base, Spain, from October 20 to 31, 2025. The exercise aims to foster mutual learning, enhance interoperability, sharpen air combat skills, and strengthen defence cooperation with friendly nations. This comes after IAF inducted 16 Airbus C-295 military transport aircraft, received by Indian Ambassador to Spain Dinesh K Patnaik on August 3, 2025, two months ahead of schedule. The Airbus C-295 is a multi-role tactical airlifter used for troop and cargo transport, maritime patrol, surveillance, and medical evacuation. It is known for versatility, reliability, and efficiency, with over 300 aircraft under contract worldwide.

Recently, environmentalists, wildlife activists, and locals urged the Union Environment Ministry to act against the illegal discharge of toxic leachate into the Aravalli hills. Leachate is a highly toxic liquid formed in municipal landfills. It collects at the bottom of landfills through waste decomposition, water infiltration, and chemical reactions. Its composition depends on waste type, landfill age, rainfall, and temperature. It contains organic pollutants, inorganic compounds, heavy metals, and microbes. Leachate can pollute soil, groundwater, and ecosystems, posing serious health risks. Proper leachate collection and disposal are essential under strict environmental regulations to prevent contamination.

Project Arunank of the Border Roads Organisation (BRO) recently celebrated its 18th Raising Day. It has been implemented since 2008 in Arunachal Pradesh. The project’s name is derived from the State of Arunachal Pradesh. The objective is to provide vital connectivity to remote valleys and forward areas while meeting Armed Forces operational requirements. It uses innovative technologies like Steel Slag, Cut-and-Cover Tunnels, Geo Cells, Plastic Sheets, and Gabion Walls for durable and sustainable roads. It supports socio-economic growth and strategic communication in remote regions of Kurung Kumey district.

Afghanistan has announced plans to construct a dam on the Kunar River, blocking its flow into Pakistan. The Kunar River is a major tributary of the Kabul River, which later merges with the Indus River in Pakistan. The river originates from the glaciated Hindu Kush Mountains in Chitral, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Pakistan. It flows into Afghanistan and joins the Kabul River there. The two main tributaries of the Kunar River are Bashgal (Landiasind) River and Pech River. The proposed dam may affect water flow and relations between Afghanistan and Pakistan.

East Timor (Timor Leste) was formally admitted to the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) on October 26, 2025, marking the bloc’s first expansion since the 1990s. The formal ceremony took place in Kuala Lumpur, with the East Timor flag added alongside 10 other member states. Timor Leste is an island country in the Eastern Lesser Sunda Islands at the southern end of the Malay Archipelago in Southeast Asia.

Recently, the Rehabilitation Council of India (RCI) announced major reforms to enhance transparency, efficiency, and inclusivity in the national rehabilitation system. The RCI is a statutory body established by an Act of Parliament. It was initially formed as a registered society in 1986 and became a statutory body on 22 June 1993 after the RCI Act, 1992. Its main mandate is to regulate and monitor rehabilitation services for persons with disabilities. The Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment serves as its nodal ministry.

Recently, scientists in Brazil launched the AmazonFACE (Free-Air CO₂ Enrichment) project near Manaus. The project aims to study how the Amazon rainforest will respond to future atmospheric CO₂ levels. It seeks to simulate future atmospheric conditions and observe forest adaptation to rising CO₂, temperature, and humidity. The main focus is to understand the forest’s carbon uptake capacity, photosynthesis rate, and resilience to climate change. The system enables continuous monitoring every 10 minutes to measure CO₂ absorption and ecosystem responses in real time.
