The “Global Report on Internal Displacement 2026” was released by the Internal Displacement Monitoring Centre and the Norwegian Refugee Council. The report states that more than 82 million people were internally displaced across 104 countries by 2025. Conflict and violence caused displacement of around 68.6 million people, exceeding disaster-related displacement. Sudan, Palestine, Iran, and Democratic Republic of the Congo were among the worst-affected regions.

Habshan Gas Complex is one of the world’s largest gas-processing facilities located in Abu Dhabi, UAE. The facility was damaged during the West Asia conflict due to drone and missile attacks. Full restoration of the gas complex is expected by 2027. The complex plays a major role in natural gas processing and energy infrastructure in the Gulf region.

According to the latest rankings by US News & World Report, United Arab Emirates emerged as the world’s most economically stable country in 2026. Switzerland ranked second, followed by Germany, Canada, and Japan. Economic stability rankings are based on factors such as strong financial systems, low debt levels, resilient economies, and reliable infrastructure. India secured the 47th position with a GDP of around $4.15 trillion. The United States ranked 13th, while Pakistan did not feature on the list.

India hosted the Kimberley Process Intersessional Meeting 2026 in Mumbai to discuss global diamond trade and prevention of conflict diamonds. The meeting involved governments, industry bodies such as the World Diamond Council, and civil society organisations. Discussions focused on the “3Cs” framework — Confidence, Compliance, and Credibility. The Kimberley Process Certification Scheme (KPCS) was established under the United Nations General Assembly Resolution 55/56 (2000) to prevent conflict diamonds from entering legal trade.

Securities and Exchange Board of India proposed “GARUDA” (Green-Channel: AIF Rollout Upon Document Acknowledgement) to speed up the launch process of Alternative Investment Fund (AIF) schemes. Under the proposal, standard AIF schemes may be launched within 10 working days instead of 30 days if no objections are raised by SEBI. Schemes for accredited investors or angel funds may use direct filing without requiring a merchant banker. The initiative aims to improve ease of doing business and accelerate capital deployment in the AIF sector.

Three church leaders belonging to the Thadou Tribe were killed in an ambush in Kangpokpi district of Manipur. The Thadou are an indigenous tribal community mainly residing in Manipur and neighbouring regions of Northeast India and Myanmar. In Manipur, they largely inhabit the hill regions surrounding the Imphal Valley. The Thadou are the second-largest tribe in Manipur after the Meiteis. According to the 2011 Census, the tribe had a population of about 190,595 in Manipur. The community shares close cultural ties with the Chin-Kuki-Mizo ethnic groups.

The Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology launched the Intellectual Property (IP) Catalyst initiative along with its digital platform. The initiative is being implemented by Centre for Development of Advanced Computing (C-DAC Pune). It aims to create a digital ecosystem supporting the entire innovation cycle, from research and patent generation to commercialization and market deployment. The initiative seeks to strengthen collaboration among startups, Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs), academia, industry, and MeitY organizations. It also aims to bridge the gap between publicly funded research and industrial adoption.

Wushu player Aparna Dahiya won a gold medal in the women’s 52 kg category at the 11th Sanda World Cup. She defeated reigning world champion Thi Phuong Nga Ngo in the final. This marked India’s first gold medal at the tournament held in Macau. Wushu has two main competitive branches — Taolu and Sanda. Taolu combines martial arts and gymnastics, while Sanda is a combat sport involving punching, kicking, throwing, and wrestling techniques.

Blue Moon MK1, also called Endurance, is an unmanned lunar cargo lander developed by Blue Origin in collaboration with National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA). It is designed to transport cargo, scientific instruments, and infrastructure to the Moon’s surface. The lander supports the Artemis program aimed at establishing a long-term human presence on the Moon. It uses cryogenic liquid hydrogen and liquid oxygen propulsion systems for deep-space missions. The spacecraft is expected to be launched using the New Glenn rocket.

National Dengue Day is observed every year on May 16 to raise awareness and strengthen preparedness against dengue and other mosquito-borne diseases before the monsoon season. The 2026 theme is “Unite. Act. Eliminate.” The campaign emphasizes community participation in eliminating mosquito breeding sites and preventing outbreaks. Awareness drives promote the “Check, Clean, and Cover” approach to prevent stagnant water accumulation. The observance focuses on controlling the spread of the Aedes mosquito, the primary carrier of dengue.
