Tristan da Cunha was recently in news after British military medics conducted a parachute mission there to assist a suspected hantavirus patient from the cruise ship MV Hondius. Tristan da Cunha is a volcanic archipelago and the largest island in the South Atlantic Ocean, located midway between southern Africa and South America. It is regarded as the world’s most remote inhabited island chain. The islands were discovered in 1506 by Portuguese explorer Tristão da Cunha, after whom the archipelago is named.

According to the recent renewable energy report, India has become the world’s third-largest country in installed renewable energy capacity. According to a report by Morgan Stanley, India’s renewable energy transition can reduce external dependence if critical solar manufacturing components are localised. India’s domestic solar module manufacturing capacity increased from 38 gigawatts in March 2024 to 74 gigawatts in March 2025, while solar cell capacity rose from 9 gigawatts to 25 gigawatts. Despite this growth, India still depends heavily on imports of solar modules, wafers, and polysilicon, with most imports sourced from China.

National Crime Records Bureau has, for the first time, compiled national data on animal cruelty cases registered under the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act, 1960. In 2024, a total of 9,039 animal cruelty cases and 10,312 arrests were recorded across India. Maharashtra reported the highest number of cases, followed by Madhya Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh, Gujarat, and Tamil Nadu. The report tracks the entire criminal justice process, including First Information Report registration, investigation, chargesheet filing, and court disposal.

India successfully conducted the second flight trial of the Divyastra Missile from Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam Island, Odisha. Divyastra is an advanced Agni missile equipped with Multiple Independently Targeted Re-entry Vehicle (MIRV) technology. It was developed by India’s Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO). MIRV technology enables a single missile to carry multiple nuclear warheads that can strike different targets independently. MIRV technology was first developed by the United States in the 1960s.

Agricultural and Processed Food Products Export Development Authority facilitated the first export of 20 metric tonnes of Baksa honey from Baksa district to the United States under the One District One Product initiative. Baksa honey is a premium near-organic honey produced in the Bodoland Territorial Region of Assam. It is known for its natural purity, high nutritional value, and medicinal properties derived from the region’s rich floral biodiversity. The honey has traditional significance among local communities, including the Bodo tribes.

West Bengal government launched the Annapurna Bhandaar Scheme. Under the scheme, eligible women may receive ₹3,000 per month directly into their bank accounts. The scheme is intended to replace the earlier Lakshmir Bhandar Scheme introduced by the All India Trinamool Congress government. It aims to provide financial assistance to women from low and middle-income households. The implementation of the scheme has been proposed from 1 June by the new state government.

Supreme Court of India launched the “One Case One Data” initiative to digitally integrate judicial data from the Supreme Court to taluka courts. The initiative aims to strengthen case management through automated data retrieval, online verification, and integrated access to court records. High Courts, district courts, taluka courts, and government departments will have interconnected access to case-related information. The Supreme Court also launched “Su-Sahayak,” an assistive chatbot developed by the National Informatics Centre in collaboration with the Supreme Court Registry.

The Government has set a target of bringing 100 lakh hectares under micro-irrigation during 2025–26 to 2029 under the National Mission for Sustainable Agriculture. It was launched in 2014–15 under the framework of the National Action Plan on Climate Change. The mission aims to reduce the adverse impacts of climate variability on agriculture while ensuring food and livelihood security. Since 2022–23, it has been integrated under the Pradhan Mantri Rashtriya Krishi Vikas Yojana. It promotes climate-resilient agriculture by improving water-use efficiency, soil health, and sustainable farming practices.

Indian Cyber Crime Coordination Centre under the Ministry of Home Affairs signed a Memorandum of Understanding with Reserve Bank Innovation Hub to combat cyber-enabled financial frauds and mule accounts. The collaboration aims to strengthen fraud-risk intelligence sharing, operational coordination, and Artificial Intelligence-based fraud detection. Indian Cyber Crime Coordination Centre (I4C) is established under the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) as the national nodal agency to fight cybercrime.

Securities and Exchange Board of India proposed “GARUDA” (Green-Channel: AIF Rollout Upon Document Acknowledgement) to speed up the launch process of Alternative Investment Fund (AIF) schemes. Under the proposal, standard AIF schemes may be launched within 10 working days instead of 30 days if no objections are raised by SEBI. Schemes for accredited investors or angel funds may use direct filing without requiring a merchant banker. The initiative aims to improve ease of doing business and accelerate capital deployment in the AIF sector.
