The Madhya Pradesh High Court recently directed the Field Director of Bandhavgarh Tiger Reserve to submit a detailed report regarding recent tiger fatalities in the reserve and nearby areas. Bandhavgarh Tiger Reserve is located in Madhya Pradesh and is spread across the Vindhya Hills. The topography of the reserve includes steep ridges, undulating forest landscapes, and open grassland meadows. The reserve is known for its historical and archaeological significance, featuring caves with Pali inscriptions and carvings depicting animals.

Poland announced withdrawal from the Ottawa Convention to allow quick deployment of Anti-Personnel Landmines (APLs) along its eastern borders if needed. The Ottawa Convention, also called the Mine Ban Treaty, bans use, production, stockpiling and transfer of APLs. Member countries must destroy stockpiled APLs within 4 years and clear planted mines within 10 years. Extension of up to 10 years can be requested for mine destruction. Countries must submit annual reports on stockpiles, mine locations and destruction progress. The treaty came into force on 1 March 1999 and has unlimited duration.

Shri Jayant Chaudhary launched nationwide campaign “Badhna Hai Toh Yahan Judna Hai” at India AI Impact Summit 2026 to promote Skill India Digital Hub (SIDH). Actor Amitabh Bachchan joined as campaign ambassador to boost awareness and participation. SIDH is an integrated digital platform for skilling, employment and lifelong learning with over 1.5 crore registered candidates. It supports Viksit Bharat vision amid Artificial Intelligence (AI) and automation growth. Mobile-first and AI-enabled platform integrates government schemes and industry-ready courses.

Nagaland will host first North East Festival of Rice: Grains of Heritage at Agri Expo, Chümoukedima on 26 and 27 February. Aim is to promote heirloom rice varieties, traditional farming tools and seed preservation practices. Communities from all Northeastern states including Sikkim will participate. Festival celebrates rice as core of indigenous culture and sustainable living. Craft section will showcase bamboo work, handloom textiles and agrarian-based artisanal products. Marketplace will feature farmers and entrepreneurs selling organic produce, rice-based products and handmade goods.

Nagaland hosted first Soybean Festival at Agri Expo, Chümoukedima on 20–21 February with more than 200 farmers, scientists and officials. Event aimed to boost soybean cultivation and farmer empowerment. Experts from Nagaland University and Indian Council of Agricultural Research–National Bureau of Plant Genetic Resources (ICAR-NBPGR), New Delhi promoted productivity and sustainable practices. Nagaland’s average yield is 12.6 quintals per hectare. It is higher than national average of 11.79 quintals per hectare, showing strong growth potential.

C. P. Radhakrishnan released the book Atal Bihari Vajpayee: The Eternal Statesman. The book is authored by Vijay Goel. It was launched at Dr Ambedkar International Centre on February 21. The Vice-President called it a tribute to Atal Bihari Vajpayee, Bharat Ratna awardee. Vajpayee was praised for integrity, inclusive politics and democratic values.

World NGO Day is celebrated annually on February 27th to recognize the contributions of non-governmental and non-profit organizations worldwide. It was officially recognized in 2010 and first celebrated internationally in 2014, honoring the efforts of NGOs in social, environmental, and humanitarian sectors. It highlights the dedication of staff and volunteers working on poverty reduction, human rights, and sustainable development.

South Korea protested Japan’s government-backed “Takeshima Day” (February 22), opposing Tokyo’s renewed sovereignty claim over the disputed islets. South Korea rejects calling it a dispute, while Japan continues diplomatic and symbolic assertions. The Takeshima dispute is a long-standing territorial conflict between Japan and South Korea (Republic of Korea). The islets, called Takeshima in Japan and Dokdo in South Korea, are located in the Sea of Japan, with South Korea currently controlling them and Japan claiming sovereignty.

Around 80 vultures recorded in Wayanad Wildlife Sanctuary, and experts say population is stable despite decline in breeding. Wayanad Wildlife Sanctuary is located in Wayanad district of Kerala in southern Western Ghats. It is also known as Muthanga Wildlife Sanctuary and was established in 1973. It covers 344 square kilometre and is part of Nilgiri Biosphere Reserve, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. It borders Nagarhole National Park, Bandipur National Park and Mudumalai National Park.

Indian Computer Emergency Response Team (CERT-In) and Satcom Industry Association of India released cyber security guidelines for India’s space ecosystem. The guidelines were unveiled at the DefSat Conference & Expo 2026 in New Delhi. The framework follows a “defense in depth, breadth and height” approach and integrates public-private perspectives. CERT-In operates under the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology, providing 24×7 incident response services. SIA-India represents India’s satellite sector, including operators, manufacturers, startups, academia, and legal firms, to shape policy and promote global collaboration.
