Ministry of Home Affairs launched India’s first National Counter-Terrorism Policy ‘PRAHAAR’. PRAHAAR means “strike” and follows zero-tolerance against terrorism. It addresses cross-border terrorism, drone attacks, cyber threats and organised terror networks. It rejects linking terrorism with any religion or ethnicity. It is built on seven pillars: prevention, swift response, capacity-building, human rights compliance, anti-radicalisation, global cooperation and societal resilience.

Willem-Alexander has sworn in a new minority coalition government in the Netherlands. The new government is led by Rob Jetten, aged 38, who becomes the youngest-ever Prime Minister of the Netherlands. Rob Jetten heads a three-party coalition comprising his centrist party Democrats 66 (D66), the centre-right Christian Democratic Appeal, and the centre-right People’s Party for Freedom and Democracy. The coalition holds 66 out of 150 seats in the lower house of Parliament, making it a minority government. The swearing-in ceremony took place in the Orange Hall of the royal palace near The Hague, 117 days after the national elections.

The Manipuri film Boong, produced by Farhan Akhtar’s Excel Entertainment, won the BAFTA Award for Best Children’s & Family Film in London. The film was directed by debutant Lakshmipriya Devi, who made an emotional appeal for peace during her acceptance speech. She received the award from Paddington Bear, the lead character of Paddington The Musical. Producers Farhan Akhtar and Ritesh Sidhwani, along with assistant director Rahul Sharda, joined her on stage.

Union Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan inaugurated the three-day Pusa Krishi Vigyan Mela at Indian Agricultural Research Institute campus, New Delhi, promoting ‘Viksit Krishi – Atmanirbhar Bharat’. The event was organised by Indian Council of Agricultural Research and attended by scientists, officials and progressive farmers. Krishi Vigyan Kendras will be strengthened as district-level reform centres to connect research with villages.

The Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology launches the Blockchain India Challenge to promote permissioned blockchain solutions for digital governance. The initiative is implemented by the Centre for Development of Advanced Computing with support from MeitY. It aims to develop secure, tamper-proof and auditable blockchain systems to improve transparency and efficiency in government services.

The Prime Minister’s office (PMO) recently reviewed proposed CAFE-3 carbon emission norms for passenger vehicles, scheduled for 2027, but no final decision was taken. CAFE (Corporate Average Fuel Efficiency) norms were introduced by Bureau of Energy Efficiency in 2017 to regulate fuel consumption and carbon emissions from passenger vehicles. They were applicable to petrol, diesel, LPG, CNG, hybrid, and electric vehicles (EVs) under 3,500 kg. Norms tightened in 2022-23 with higher penalties for non-compliance. The objective is to reduce oil dependency, air pollution, and promote EVs, hybrids, and CNG vehicles.

INS Anjadip commissioned into Indian Navy at Chennai Port on 27 February 2026. It is the fourth ship under Anti-Submarine Warfare Shallow Water Craft project. It is named after Anjadip island near Karwar, it is designed for anti-submarine operations in shallow coastal waters. It has over 80 percent indigenous content, promoting Aatmanirbhar Bharat in defence. The 77 metre, 1400 ton ship has advanced Anti-Submarine Warfare suite and Combat Management System. It follows INS Arnala and INS Androth in this series.

The Gujarat government allocated Rs 20 crore in the 2026–27 state budget for Namo Gaurav Park projects, with a total proposed outlay of Rs 100 crore, to develop modern recreational infrastructure in municipal corporation areas. The parks, under the Urban Development and Urban Housing Department, will provide safe, inclusive, and vibrant community spaces for all age groups. The initiative aims to strengthen community bonds, enhance urban ecology, promote biodiversity, improve climate resilience, and raise the quality of urban life.

Indian Computer Emergency Response Team (CERT-In) and Satcom Industry Association of India released cyber security guidelines for India’s space ecosystem. The guidelines were unveiled at the DefSat Conference & Expo 2026 in New Delhi. The framework follows a “defense in depth, breadth and height” approach and integrates public-private perspectives. CERT-In operates under the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology, providing 24×7 incident response services. SIA-India represents India’s satellite sector, including operators, manufacturers, startups, academia, and legal firms, to shape policy and promote global collaboration.

Notes:
The Indian Army defended its team championship title at the 6th edition of the Khelo India Winter Games, winning a total of nine gold medals, including eight in the Gulmarg leg. Himachal Pradesh finished as runners-up after securing four gold medals on the final day of competition. The closing ceremony of KIWG 2026 was organised by the Jammu and Kashmir Sports Council and managed by the Sports Authority of India at the Golf Course in Gulmarg. The first leg of the Games was held in Ladakh from January 20–26, 2026.
