Praveen Kumar has become the first Indian man to win gold in the 48kg category at the  15th Wushu World Championships. In the final, he beat Russel Diaz of Philippines in the men’s Sanda event in Shanghai. Wushu is a Chinese martial art which combines full-contact kickboxing, including close-range punches and kicks, with wrestling, takedowns, throws, sweeps and kicks catch.

IIT Bombay has topped the Quacquarelli Symonds (QS) India University Rankings 2020. The QS has ranked the higher education institutions in India on the basis eight parameters of academic reputation (30%), employer reputation (20%), faculty-student ratio (20%), staff with PhD (10%), papers per faculty (10%), citation per paper (5%), international faculty (2.5%) and international students (2.5%). The Indian Institute of Science (IISc) Bangaluru has been ranked second followed by the IITs in Delhi, Madras, Kharagpur, Kanpur, Roorkee, and Guwahati.

The first-ever “Global Bio-India 2019” Summit is being held in India at New Delhi from 21st to 23rd November 2019. The event is expected to strengthen the indigenous research capabilities, bio-entrepreneurship, investments and last-mile-delivery of technology across rural India and tier-2, 3 cities. The summit is one of the largest biotechnology stakeholders conglomerate.

On the occasion of Dhanteras, the Uttar Pradesh government has launched Mukhya Mantri Kanya Sumangala Yojana to empower the girl child. As per the scheme, an amount of Rs 15,000 will be provided to every family in which a girl child takes birth. The state government will direct transfer funds in the account of the registered girls in a phased manner when a girl child will complete various achievements, like vaccination, admission in class 1, 5 and 9, graduation.

IAS officer Arvind Singh has been appointed as the chairman of Airports Authority of India and Sukhbir Singh Sandhu will head the National Highways Authority of India.

Veteran sports journalist and author K R Wadhwaney recently died in Delhi. He was born in Karachi (now in Pakistan), migrated to Lucknow after the partition in 1947. After working in top organisations, Wadhwaney later went on to become the Sports Editor of the Indian Express newspaper.

Premier speedster Jasprit Bumrah and batswoman Smriti Mandhana are the two Indian names among the five winners of the prestigious Wisden India Almanack Cricketer of the Year award. The other winners from Asia are Pakistan’s Fakhar Zaman, Sri Lanka’s Dimuth Karunaratne and Afghanistan Rashid Khan. Mandhana is the third woman to be named ‘Cricketer of the Year’, after Mithali Raj and Deepti Sharma. Stalwarts Gundappa Viswanath and Lala Amarnath are inducted into the Wisden India Hall of Fame.

BharatPe, India’s largest merchant fintech company, has won the DigiDhan Mission Fintech Award 2018-2019 for ‘Innovation in Digital Payments through Emerging Technology’ at the MeitY Startup Summit 2019 held in Delhi. The award was presented by Chief Guest, Shri Ravi Shankar Prasad, Minister of Communication, Electronics & IT and Law & Justice.

Government of India has accorded ‘Maharatna’ status to public sector undertaking’s (PSU’s) Hindustan Petroleum Corporation Limited (HPCL) and Power Grid Corporation. Two separate orders to this effect were issued by Department of Public Enterprises, under Union Ministry of Heavy Industry and Public Enterprises.

Justice Sharad Arvind Bobde has been appointed as the 47th Chief Justice of India (CJI) & will take oath as CJI on November 18. He will have tenure of 17 months and would demit office on April 23, 2021.
