Over 120 Nations Join Eighth International Solar Alliance Assembly in New Delhi

The Eighth Session of the International Solar Alliance (ISA) Assembly began in New Delhi with participation from representatives of more than 120 countries. The event, inaugurated by President Droupadi Murmu, marked a significant milestone in global cooperation for renewable energy and sustainable development.

Union Minister Pralhad Joshi highlighted the strong international presence at the ISA Assembly, calling it a proud moment for India. He noted that ISA member nations collectively contribute to nearly 40 per cent of global solar energy capacity. The session reaffirmed India’s commitment to sharing its successful solar models with the world, especially under schemes such as PM Kusum and PM Surya Ghar.

India’s Leadership in Solar Initiatives

Joshi informed that around 21 lakh PM Surya Ghar installations have been completed, with nearly 48 per cent of beneficiaries achieving zero electricity bills. Many households are now generating income by selling surplus power back to the grid. India’s success stories were shared as models of energy equity and rural empowerment, reflecting the nation’s efforts toward energy self-sufficiency.

President Murmu’s Call for Inclusive Growth

In her address, President Droupadi Murmu described solar energy as a tool for empowerment and inclusive progress. She emphasised that the ISA embodies a collective aspiration to harness solar energy for dignity and prosperity. The President urged member countries to integrate solar initiatives with broader goals—such as job creation, women’s leadership, and digital inclusion—beyond mere power generation metrics.
