May 5, 2012: World Hand Hygiene Day being observed
The World Hand Hygiene Day observed on May 5, 2012.
Objective:
– To create awareness among the general public about the importance of hand hygiene.
– To improve hand hygiene in the health care sector, where the cleanliness of hands is often credited with saving more lives than most medical breakthroughs.
– The day stimulates care providers world-wide and to recognize hand hygiene and other relevant infection control techniques as necessity for patient safety.
Theme of the year: ‘Save lives – clean your hands’
The WHO had launched this campaign in the year 2009 to create cognizance about the benefits of meliorated hand hygiene.
