India-US Yudh Abhyas 2026 Begins at Auli and Mahajan

The 22nd edition of the India-US joint military exercise Yudh Abhyas 2026 began on 15 September 2026 at the Auli Foreign Training Node in Uttarakhand and the Mahajan Field Firing Range in Rajasthan. Around 600 personnel from the Indian Army and 600 personnel from the United States Army are taking part in the exercise, which is scheduled to conclude on 28 September 2026.

Exercise Yudh Abhyas

Yudh Abhyas is an annual bilateral military exercise between the Indian Army and the United States Army. The exercise is designed for field training, tactical drills, and coordination in operational environments. The 2026 edition is the 22nd iteration of the exercise.

Training Areas and Terrain

The exercise is being conducted at two Indian Army training locations, namely Auli in Uttarakhand and Mahajan in Rajasthan. Auli is a high-altitude location in the Himalayan region, while Mahajan Field Firing Range is used for large-scale field firing and manoeuvre training in desert terrain. The dual-location format allows training in mountainous and semi-mountainous conditions.

Operational Focus and Equipment

The exercise focuses on Integrated Battle Groups, infantry-dominated operations, interoperability, joint planning, and execution of military tasks. The contingents are also training on drones and autonomous systems for surveillance and reconnaissance. Demonstrations of contemporary weapon systems are planned at the Mahajan Field Firing Range.

The exercise includes equal participation from both armies, with 600 personnel from each side.
