Jessye Norman (74), the renowned international opera singer of the 20th Century, has passed away in New York, United States. She was a pioneering young black woman in the white world of classical music & showcased her majestic the voice in performances around the world. She won four Grammy Awards and the National Medal of Arts.

KS Dhatwalia, the senior Indian Information Service (IIS) officer,  has been appointed as the Principal Director General of Press Information Bureau (PIB).  Mr. Dhatwalia  will continue to hold the additional charge of Director General, Indian Institute of Mass Communication (IIMC).

In Swimming, Indian duo of N Wilson Singh and Satish Kumar Prajapati produced impressive performances to win a gold in 10m platform synchronized event at the ongoing 10th Asian Age Group Championships 2019 in Bengaluru, Karnataka. Therefore, India extended their total tally to 60 medals (17 gold, 23 silver and 20 bronze) in the prestigious championships, which is the largest aquatic event in Asia.

The 94th Raising Day of the Military Nursing Service (MNS) has celebrated on 1st of October 2019. The MNS is the only all women corps in the Armed Forces. It came into existence on 28th March 28 1888 with the arrival of first batch of 10 qualified British Nurses in Bombay, to organize nursing in Military hospitals in India. In 1893, it was designated as Indian Army Nursing Service and in 1902 as Queen Alexandra Military Nursing Service (QAMNS). On October1,1926, a permanent Nursing Service for the India troops was formed and was designated as the Indian Military Nursing Service (IMNS).

The International Translation Day (ITD) is celebrated every year on 30th of September to pay tribute to the work of language professionals. The 2019 theme  “Translation and Indigenous Languages”, focuses on the indigenous languages that are in danger of disappearing.
