DRDO develops sanitisation equipment for fighting COVID-19

The CFEES under the DRDO has developed 2 configurations of equipment for sanitising public places in light of the ongoing COVID-19 spread.

Portable Backpack Area Sanitisation Equipment

The Portable Backpack Area Sanitisation Equipment is a spin-off from technology used by CFEES in fire suppression. It sprays a 1% hypochlorite solution for disinfection of the suspected area. It makes use of low pressure twin fluid technology to give a fine mist of disinfectant solution that can be sprayed by the operating personnel from a backpack. It can disinfect a 300 sq m area.

Trolley Mounted Large Area Sanitisation Equipment

The Trolley Mounted Large Area Sanitisation Equipment is for covering larger areas. It can cover up to 3,000 sq m areas. It utilises a low pressure single fluid technology. It has a capacity of carrying 50 litres of   disinfecting fluid which it can spray up to a distance of 12 to 15 m.

CFEES

The CFEES or Centre for Fire, Explosive and Environment Safety is a laboratory under the DRDO, established in 1992. It is located in Delhi. It is involved in developing technology in the fields of explosives, environmental and fire safety.
