Notes:
United Nations International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD) has recently released a report titled ‘Transforming Food Systems for Rural Prosperity’.
The report recommended several concrete actions to be taken by governments and policymakers. It said that the Global food systems need a huge revolution, in a more inclusive, fair and sustainable way. As per the report, Food systems are responsible for 37 per cent of greenhouse gas emissions and also highly vulnerable to a changing climate.

Prompt Corrective Action (PCA) refers to the watchlist of weak banks, by the Reserve Bank of India. The regulator imposes restrictions like curbs on lending among others, on such banks.
The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has recently removed Indian Overseas Bank from the Prompt Corrective Action Framework. The bank was placed under the PCA framework in 2015. On the basis of the published financial results for 2020-21, the Board for Financial Supervision, found that the bank has not breached PCA parameter.

Mont Blanc is the highest mountain in the Alps and Western Europe. The summit of the Mont Blanc peak, has shrunk by two metres over the past 20 years.
Recently, surveyors including experts and high mountain guides measured the peak and announced its new measurements. It has reached an official height of 4,807.81 metres above sea level. The official height has been on a downward slide for over a decade. The highest reading was 4,810.9 metres in 2007.

Union Labour and Employment Minister Bhupendra Yadav announced a collaboration with Microsoft India to launch DigiSaksham programme.
Through DigiSaksham, 10 million active registered job seekers will be able to access the training including computing and computer science training on the National Career Service Portal. The programme is aimed to impact 3,00,000 job seekers in the first year by training them in subjects like programming languages, data analytics, software development etc.

North Korea has claimed that it successfully tested a new hypersonic missile called Hwasong-8. This technology allows missiles to be pre-fuelled and then sent to the field.
Days after the hypersonic missile, North Korea said it test-fired a new anti-aircraft missile. This marks the country’s fourth weapons test in under a month. North Korea also said that its weapons are needed for self-defence.

National Voluntary Blood Donation Day is celebrated on 1st October of every year across the country. It aims to raise awareness about Blood donation and promote voluntary Blood donation in the country.
The theme for this year’s Blood donation event is “Give Blood and keep the world beating”. On this day various public and private organizations hold Blood donation camps and awareness activities.  Our country needs around 1.45 crore units of blood every year. Collection of blood is done through 3500 licensed blood banks across the country.

ONGC Videsh Limited, a wholly owned subsidiary of ONGC has commenced its first exploratory drilling campaign in Bangladesh, to locate the availability of oil and gas.
The drilling of the first exploratory well named Kanchan 1 commenced and is expected to be drilled to a depth of 4200 meters. The company has proposed to make 2 more exploratory drills in the country.

Clean Andhra Pradesh (CLAP), is an initiative of the Andhra Pradesh government launched by Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy on Gandhi Jayanti. It aims to make the state clean with public participation.
Under the Clean Andhra Pradesh (CLAP) mission, over 4000 garbage collecting vehicles will be deployed across 13 districts in the state. The state government will distribute 3 colour coded dustbins (Red, Green and Blue) to all 40 lakh households. People ought to use them for waste disposal after segregating the waste.

Ethiopian Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed has been sworn in for a new five-year term. The government has been facing a lot of challenges, including a long conflict in the northern region of Tigray.
Abiy’s Prosperity Party was declared the winner of parliamentary elections earlier this year. The prime minister was also the 2019 Nobel Peace Prize winner for restoring ties with neighbouring country Eritrea.

The first consignment of Kashmiri walnuts was recently flagged off from Budgam. The consignment with 2,000 kgs of walnuts was despatched to Bengaluru, Karnataka under the One District, One Product (ODOP) initiative.
ODOP is a flagship initiative of Ministry of Commerce and Industry. Kashmir accounts for 90% of India’s walnut production. They are known for the superior quality, taste and nutrients and hence widely in demand across the globe.
