NATO member Turkey has agreed to support Sweden and Finland’s membership of the alliance. It had initially opposed the bids of the Nordic countries to join.
A trilateral deal was reached at a meeting between Turkey’s President, Finland’s President and the Swedish Prime Minister in the Spanish capital, Madrid. Foreign Ministers from the three countries signed a joint security pact that addressed Turkey’s concerns.

NITI Aayog and World Food Programme (WFP) have launched a report titled ‘Take Home Ration-Good Practices across the State/Union Territories’.
The report presents a set of good and innovative practices adopted in the implementation of the Take Home Ration (THR) value chain by the States and UTs. Take Home Ration has been provided in Indian under the Supplementary Nutrition component of the Integrated Child Development Services (ICDS).

As per the World Drug Report 2022, India has the most number of opiate users in the world. The trend is expected to rise with an increase in trafficking.
As per the report, the number of drug users increased 26 per cent globally over the last decade to 284 million people. An estimated 11.2 million injected drugs, half of whom lived with hepatitis C, 1.4 million with HIV and 1.2 million with both.

Every year on the third Saturday of September, the world celebrates ‘International Coastal Clean-Up Day.’
On September 17, 2022, the Government of India, in collaboration with other voluntary organizations and the local community, is set to launch the “Swachh Sagar, Surakshit Sagar” cleanliness campaign along India’s entire coastline.

The UN Ocean Conference 2022 concluded with the unanimous adoption of the Lisbon Declaration “Our Ocean, our future, our responsibility.”
More than 150 countries agreed to scale up science-based and innovative actions to address the ocean emergency. The Lisbon Declaration takes into account the capacity challenges being faced by the developing countries, mainly the Small Island Developing States and Least Developing Countries.

Railway Protection Force launched a month long pan India drive against smuggling of narcotics through rail, under code name Operation “NARCOS”.
In the month of June 2022, RPF has recovered various narcotics products worth Rs 7.40 Crores, and arrested 165 persons who were carrying Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS). RPF has been empowered to conduct search, seizure and arrest under NDPS Act since April 2019.

Every year, National Doctor’s Day is observed on July 1 in the memory of Dr Bidhan Roy, the former Chief Minister of Bengal, since 1991.
The theme this year is ‘Family doctors on the front line.’ The day honours the contributions made by the doctors and healthcare professionals, along with the sacrifices they have made to save millions of lives.

The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has launched a new portal named Pariksha Sangam.
The portal will act as a one-stop destination for all exam-related activities, which will include term results and more. It has 3 parts – Schools (Ganga), Regional Offices (Yamuna) and Head Office (Saraswati).

The Reserve Bank has launched the next round of its order books, inventories and capacity utilisation survey (OBICUS) of manufacturing companies.
The results of the survey provide valuable inputs for monetary policy formulation. The 58th round of the OBICUS is for April – June 2022 period. The information collected in the survey includes data on new orders received during the reference quarter, backlog of orders, pending and total inventories among others.

Peter Brook, one of the greatest theatre directors of the 20th century, passed away recently at the age of 97.
He is also regarded as one of the world’s most innovative theatre directors. He was known for staging Peter Weiss’s “Marat/Sade” and Shakespeare’s “A Midsummer Night’s Dream.”. He is known for bringing nine-hour adaptation of the Sanskrit epic “The Mahabharata” from France to New York in 1987.
