Sanjeev Kishore was an alumnus of Indian Railway Institute of Mechanical and Electrical Engineering (IRIMEE), Jamalpur. He has been appointed as the new General Manager of South Western Railway (SWR). Earlier, he served as Additional Member (Production Units) of Railway Board.
He is a recipient of the National Award (Minister of Railways Award) for Meritorious Service in 2003 and a Fellow of Institutions of Engineer India and Institution of Mechanical Engineers, United Kingdom.
South Western Railway is one of the 18 Railway zones in India. It is headquartered at Hubballi in Karnataka state. It was carved out from Southern Railways and South Central Railways in 2003.

Marcell Jacobs won a gold medal in a 100m race at the Tokyo Olympics on August 1, 2021. He completed the race in 9.80 seconds and became the first Italian man to win an Olympic medal in a 100m race. He also set a European record in 100m race by finishing the race in 9.80 seconds. He is an Italian sprinter and long jumper. He won the 60metres title during the 2021 European Athletics Indoor Championships.

World Breastfeeding Week (WBW) is organised annually by World Health Organisation (WHO), World Alliance for Breastfeeding Action (WABA) , United Nations Children’s Emergency Fund (UNICEF). The Breastfeeding week is marked every year from August 1 to August 8 i.e. the first week of August. The main motive of World Breastfeeding Week is to raise awareness on the importance of breastfeeding for mothers and infants. The theme of 2021 is “Protect Breastfeeding: A Shared Responsibility”.
The World Alliance for Breastfeeding Action (WABA) was founded on 14 February 1999 by Anwar Fazal. Its headquarter is located in Penang (Malaysia).

A Memorandum of Understanding was signed between Indian Bank and IIT Bombay for extending credit facilities to Start-ups and MSMEs. The initiative is implemented by IIT Bombay. The initiative is named as Society for Innovation and Entrepreneurship (SINE). Under this initiative, Indian Bank will extend loans of up to 50 crore rupees to these start-ups. Loans will be provided for the purchase of machinery and equipment and other working capital requirements.
Indian Bank is an Indian nationalised financial services and banking company. It was established in 1907. Its headquarter is in Chennai. It is under the ownership of the Ministry of Finance of the Government of India.
IIT(Indian Institute of Technology) Bombay was founded in 1958. In 1961, Parliament declared all the IITs as an institute of national importance. IIT Bombay is a public technical and research university located in Powai in Maharashtra.

Notes:
Suicide cases due to unemployment have increased by 24% in 2019 as compared to 2016. As per the data of NCRB, Karnataka registered the maximum number of suicides (553) due to unemployment in 2019. Karnataka is followed by Maharashtra and Tamil Nadu.
National Crime Records Bureau (NCRB) is an Indian agency which collects and analyses crime data in accordance with the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and Special Local Laws (SLL). NCRB was set up in 1986. It is headquartered in New Delhi and works under the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA). IPS Ramphal Pawar is the current director of NCRB.

A cashless and contactless instrument named ‘e-Rupi’ was launched by the Prime Minister Narendra Modi on August 2, 2021. It has been launched for providing the facilities of digital payments. It will be helpful in strengthening Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT) by assisting in targeted, transparent and leakage free delivery. e-RUPI is a QR code or SMS string based e-Voucher which is delivered to the mobile of the beneficiaries. These vouchers will be mostly used for health-related payments. Corporates can also use these vouchers for their employees.
It has been developed by the National Payments Corporation of India in collaboration with the department of financial services, health ministry and the National Health Authority.

“Delhi@2047” initiative was launched recently by Arvind Kejriwal. The aim of this initiative is to build partnerships with the private sector, CSR initiatives and  philanthropic organisations to achieve the vision for Delhi by 2047 and make Delhi as the Global city in the world. The main objectives under this initiative are Increasing Delhi’s per capita income to Singapore’s level, Providing 24*7 water supply before the upcoming elections, to bid for the 2048 Olympics, making roads as per the European standards and many other facilities.

Khalid Mansoor has been appointed as the chief of the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) Authority. He replaced Asim Saleem Bajwa. Khalid Mansoor has more than 30 years of experience in energy and petrochemical sectors. He has a good knowledge about execution, management and operations related to mega-projects.
China-Pakistan Economic Corridor is a collection of infrastructure projects that are under construction in the regions of Pakistan and China.  It was established on 22 May, 2013.

Lovlina Borgohain became the 3rd Indian boxer after Vijender Singh and Mary Kom to win a bronze medal at the Olympics. She won the bronze medal at the Tokyo Olympics 2020. She belongs to Golaghat (Assam). She also won a bronze medal at the 2018 AIBA Women’s World Boxing Championship and the 2019 AIBA Women’s World Boxing Championships. She is the first female athlete and second boxer from Assam to represent India in the Olympics. She became the 6th person from Assam to get the Arjuna Award.

Agricultural and Processed Food Products Export Development Authority (APEDA) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with University of Agricultural Sciences (UAS), Bangalore with the aim to boost export of agricultural and processed food products, especially from the state of Karnataka.  The key areas of cooperation will be developing technologies jointly with APEDA for efficient & precision farming, advance alertness, enhancing quality exports, diversifying the export basket, boosting high-value agri exports, etc.
