As per a latest forecast by the World Bank, China is set to lead economic recovery of East Asian and Pacific economies in the year 2021.
The report predicts that China will grow by 8.1% in 2021, compared with 2.3% the previous year. The East Asian and Pacific region would grow by 7.4% compared to 1.2 per cent growth in 2020.

Notes:
The International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN) released its new assessment recently. It highlighted the pressures faced by the two species of elephants in Africa due to poaching for ivory and human encroachment.
It announced that the Savanna elephant was “endangered” and the much smaller, lighter forest elephant was “critically endangered”.

As per the report titled “Playing by new rules”, released by FICCI-EY, Indian media and entertainment (M&E) sector is expected to grow upward by 25% during the year 2021.
The total value of the sector is expected to reach Rs 1.73 lakh crore during 2021 and with the same level growth, the industry is expected to reach Rs 2.23 lakh crore by 2023.

The Economic Affairs Secretary announced that the inflation target for the period April 1, 2021 to March 31, 2026 under the Reserve Bank of India Act 1934 has been kept at 4 per cent with a margin of 2 per cent on either side.
This is the same target mandated to the RBI by the Government in the previous five years (2016-21). RBI was to maintain annual inflation at 4 per cent until March 31, 2021 with an upper tolerance of 6 per cent and a lower tolerance of 2 per cent.’

Indian veteran actor Rajinikanth has been recently conferred with 51st Dadasaheb Phalke Award for the year 2020 recently. This is the top most honour in Indian cinema.
This award is presented every year for outstanding contribution to the growth and development of Indian cinema. This award was first instituted the year 1969.

The 3rd Joint Logistics Node (JLN) of Indian Armed Forces has been made operationalised in Mumbai by the Chief of Defence Staff General Bipin Rawat.
This JLN will provide integrated logistics support to the Armed Forces for their small arms ammunition, rations, fuel, general stores, civil hired transport etc.

The Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) released the ‘Forest Governance by Indigenous and Tribal Peoples’ report recently.
As per the report, deforestation rates in Latin America and the Caribbean are significantly lower in Indigenous and Tribal territories. The report was jointly released by Fund for the Development of Indigenous Peoples of Latin America and the Caribbean (FILAC).

Hubert Hurkacz of Poland has recently clinched the Miami Open Men’s title. He defeated Jannik Sinner of Italy to take away the cup.
Presently, he is ranked 37th in the world. He has defeated two top 10 opponents in this tournament. With this he is projected to move up to 16th in world ranking.

India has fixed a target of 10% ethanol blending in petrol by the year 2022.
Recently, India has achieved more than 7.2 per cent of ethanol blending in fuel, for the first four months of ethanol supply. Some stated like Goa, Karnataka, Maharashtra have achieved 9-9.5% ethanol blending. This shows that India is on track to reach 10% ethanol blend by 2022.

The market regulator – Securities and Exchange Board of India (SEBI) has asked Indian companies to fasten the process of separating the roles of chairperson and managing director (MD).
Initially, the deadline for the above process was fixed by SEBI as April 01, 2020. Based on representations from various stakeholders, SEBI has revised the deadline as April 01, 2022 for top 500 listed companies of India.
