2012 London Olympics: Gurmeet qualifies for in Race Walking

  • Gurmeet Singh of India qualified for the 2012 London Olympics 20-Km Race Walking Competition after finishing 6th in the 18th Dublin International Grand Prix in Ireland
  • Gurmeet clocked One hour, 22 minutes, zero seven seconds to better the London Games qualifying ‘A’ standard of One hour, 22 minutes, three zero seconds at the Phoenix Park in Dublin, Ireland
  • He also qualified for the World Championships to be held in Daegu, South Korea, from August 27 to September 4, 2011 
  • The Dublin International GP is a London Olympics and World Championships qualifying event as it is an IAAF Challenge Meet held under a European Athletics Permit
  • The qualifying standards of London Olympics and World Championships are the same

Women’s Asian Junior Under-19 Championship Title won by Anaka Alankamony

  • Anaka Alankamony, a 16-year old girl from Chennai clinched the gold in the Women’s Asian
    Junior Under-19 squash Championship in Jordan
  • Anaka beat top seed Tong Tsz-Wing from Hong Kong in the Finals
  • Anaka now becomes the third Indian to win the crown after Joshna Chinappa and Dipika Pallikal

Saina Nehwal finishes as Runner-Up in the final of the Indonesia Open

  • Saina Nehwal finished as Runner-Up in the Indonesia Open Super Series Badminton Tournament
  • In the Final Match in Jakarta , the defending champion lost to Yihan Wang (China) world number three
  • In 2011, Saina has just one title, the Swiss Open Grand Prix Gold in her pocket
