Chemical Weapons Convention (CWC)

Chemical Weapons Convention (CWC) which is a legally binding international Convention was adopted in 1992 by UN Conference on Disarmament and came into force in 1997.

It is implemented by the Organization for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons (OPCW). It is a multilateral treaty that bans chemical weapons and requires their destruction within a specified period of time. OPCW is an intergovernmental organization headquartered in Hague, Netherlands. It was awarded Nobel Peace Prize in 2013.
