Alphabet shifts self-driving cars into Waymo

Google parent company Alphabet Inc., is shifting its self-driving car project into a new business called Waymo. The company has been developing vehicle technology as part of its X research lab for the past six years. Now, a standalone business is to emerge from the research in order to sharpen the company’s focus on changing the transportation industry.

Alphabet Inc is an American multinational conglomerate which came into existence in October 2015 after search engine giant Google had announced Alphabet as its parent company. It was formed as part of Google’s new organisational structure. The parent company encompass all other earlier subsidiaries and products of Google under its umbrella.
