The Almatti Dam is a hydroelectric project on the Krishna River at the Bagalkot district in North Karnataka. It is in news because the dam has been chosen for the World Bank’s Award of Excellence for best utilization of funds (Rs. 72 crore) for renovation to increase the strength of the dam.The project was taken up under the Dam Rehabilitation and Improvement Project (DRIP) for strengthening the reservoir, one of the largest reservoirs in Karnataka. The World Bank (WB) had granted Rs.72 crore to the Krishna Bhagya Jal Nigam Limited to prevent seepage which could damage the dam.
