Discuss the salient features of National Clean Air Programme (NCAP) by government.

In an effort to tackle the air pollution in a comprehensive manner, the government has come up with National Clean Air Programme (NCAP). The programme intends to serve as a long-term time-bound national level strategy to tackle pollution and ensure clean and safe air. The salient features of the programme are:

  • developing a comprehensive management plan for prevention and mitigating air pollution
  • establishing efficient and effective air quality monitoring network across India
  • focus on a collaborative and participatory approach comprising all sources of pollution
  • working in coordination with relevant central ministries, state governments, local bodies and other stakeholders
  • road map to end stubble burning and finding alternatives for managing straw
