Article 44 in the Part IV (DPSP), which says that “The State shall endeavour to secure for the citizens a uniform civil code throughout the territory of India“. But, since DPSP is not enforceable by court the article has only rhetoric existence. Also, uniform civil code cannot be forcefully imposed because it violates Article 25 of the Constitution – which gives the right to all citizens including minority citizens to have personal laws based on tenets of their respective religions.
