Tribes India E-Market Place: GoI to launch the largest market of Tribal products

On October 2, 2020, the Union Minister of Tribal Affairs Arjun Munda is to launch the largest handicraft and organic product market place called “Tribes India E-Market Place”. The market place is an initiative of TRIFED (Tribal Cooperative Marketing Development Federation of India).


Along with this, the minister will also launch several other TRIFED initiatives. They are as follows

  • Inauguration of 123rd and 124th tribal outlet at Rishikesh and Kolkata.
  • The minister will also launch 100% natural honey that were gathered by Santhal Tribals from Pakur, Jharkhand. The honey has been named “Pakur Honey”.

Other Measures

The Government of India has brought in several measures for Tribal welfare. In March 2020, the TRIFED launched the “Tech for Tribals” programme. The programme was launched to develop tribal entrepreneurship. It was launched in partnership with Institutes of National Importance.

The Tech for Tribal programme aims to transform five crore tribal entrepreneurs by imparting entrepreneurship skills and capacity building to tribal forest produce gatherers. The programme mainly targets those enrolled under Pradhan Mantri Van Dhan Yojana.

Under the scheme, the Van Dhan Vikas Kendras were opened. These act as a sale point where the products are collected, branded and sold at appropriate prices.

Pradhan Mantri Van Dhan Yojana

It is an initiative of TRIFED that was launched in 2018. The scheme was launched to improve tribal incomes through value addition.

The scheme aims to promote minor forest produce centric livelihood development of tribal gatherers and artisans. It mainstreams tribal community through value addition to the minor forest produce at grass root level.


On September 30, 2020, the Assam State Government launched a brand of products made by tribal communities from forest goods. The brand has been named TRISSAM. It has been launched under Pradhan Mantri Van Dhan Yojana.
