Asia to use half of World’s electricity by 2025: IEA

The International Energy Agency recently released its annual report. The other two major reports released by the organization are the World Energy Outlook and the Net Zero by 2050 report. According to the annual report released by the Agency, the Asian continent is to consume half the electricity produced in the world by 2025. On the other hand, Africa will only use 3% of the world’s electricity by 2025. Africa has one-fifth of the world’s population.

Key Findings of the report

Nuclear power and wind power are to increase. World temperature rise has reached 1.1 degrees Celsius as compared to the preindustrial levels.

Electricity Consumption of China

Most of Asia’s electricity consumption is to come from China. China is to consume more electricity compared to the combined consumption of the US, India, and the EU.

Least Consumer

Africa is to consume the least because it is not as developed as the rest of the world.

Influence of Weather on Electricity consumption

Electricity demand in the world is becoming weather dependent. Heat waves in India will significantly increase the power consumption of the country. Also, drought in Europe will increase its electricity consumption. Severe storms in the US are to increase and will damage the power distribution systems causing severe damage.
