National Security Day 2022

India celebrates National Security Day on March 4th. It is also known as Rashtriya Suraksha Diwas, and it honors the security forces of India.

Overview:

  • The aim of the day is to express gratitude to the nation’s security forces, which include paramilitary, military, police officers, commandos, guards, and India’s security forces, as well as those who help in maintaining the security and peace of the country.
  • From 4th March to 10th March 2022, National Security Week 2022 is also being celebrated.

History of this day

On 4th March 1966, the National Safety Council of India was established. This decision was taken by the Ministry of Labour and National Security Day was first celebrated in 1972.

About National Security Council

The National Security Council is an executive body of the government that is responsible for advising the Prime Minister’s Office on strategic interests and national security. On 19th November 1998, the NSC was established by former Indian Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee, with Brajesh Mishra as the first National Security Advisor. Prior to the establishment of the NSC, these tasks were performed by the preceding Prime Ministers’ principal secretary.

Ajit Doval is the present NSA of India and the NSC’s chief executive and also the Primary Advisor to PM Narendra Modi. Intelligent agencies of the country such as the Intelligence Bureau (IB) and Research Analysis Wing (RAW) report to NSA.
