On the occasion of World Tribal Day (WTD-2019), the Khadi and Village Industry Commission (KVIC) has launched a new programme ‘Leather Mission’ from the tribal-dominated village of Chandala in Sirohi district of Rajasthan. Under this new programme, KVIC will give Leather Kits to the leather artisans across the nation. It will not only increase their incomes manifold but will also inspire the traditional leather artisans who had migrated to other jobs from their traditional skill to adopt this vocation again. The KVIC has also distributed approx 50 leather kits and 350 Bee-Boxes with live bee colonies under the programmes like Leather Mission, Kumhar Sashaktikaran Mission and Honey Mission.

Wular Lake is one of the largest fresh water lakes in Asia. It is sited in Bandipora district in the Indian union territory of Jammu and Kashmir. The lake basin was formed as a result of tectonic activity and is fed by the Jhelum River. The lake’s size varies seasonally from 12 to 100 square miles
Chilika Lake is a brackish water lagoon, spread over the Puri, Khurda and Ganjam districts of Odisha state on the east coast of India, at the mouth of the Daya River, flowing into the Bay of Bengal, covering an area of over 1,100 km².
Loktak Lake is the largest freshwater lake in Northeast India and is famous for the phumdis floating over it. The lake is located at Moirang in Manipur state, India. The etymology of Loktak is Lok = “stream” and tak = “the end”.
Nakki Lake is a lake situated in the Indian hill station of Mount Abu in Aravalli range.

Soil of Western Rajasthan have a high content of Calcium. These soils have rich content of iron- oxide and devoid of calcium salts because calcium salts soluble in water and are easily washed away.

Rajasthan’s Jaipur is also known as the ‘Pink City’. In July, 2019, the city was declared as a World Heritage Site. The recently signed MoU will focus on promoting the cultural heritage of the state to improve the community livelihood.

The project will involve UNESCO and Contact Base (an NGO). The bodies were also involved in the West Bengal project which succeeded in renovating 22 art forms and transformed 18 villages into cultural destinations. The Rajasthan project seeks to replicate the success in the western state.

Measles is a contagious viral disease. It is however preventable with vaccination. Measles are prevalent in Asian and African regions. In India, 1.3 million are infected and 49,000 die annually- 36% of total measles deaths in the world.
Statement 2 is incorrect:
India plans to completely eradicate measles by 2020- in a manner similar to how polio was eradicated. Along with 10 South East Asian countries, India plans to eliminate measles and rubella. The country has already reported a huge drop in the number of measles cases. Mass immunisation drives are the main contributors to curbing of these infections- universal immunisation program with the measles rubella vaccine.

Mission Indradhanush is a mission of the Indian government to eradicate 8 vaccine preventable diseases, including measles. Other diseases include Diphtheria, Japanese Enchephalitis, etc. In 2017, Intensified Mission Indradhanush was launched. This seeks to achieve full immunisation to at least 90% of the population.

Previously known as the Rajasthan canal. It is India’s longest canal, measuring about 650km. It is a part of India’s green revolution. Its purposes include irrigation, drinking water supply, increasing area under cultivation, etc. It originates from the Harike barrage, located at a distance from the meeting point of Satluj and Beas.
Statement 2 is correct:
The canal connects the Himalayan Rivers- Ravi, Beas and Sutlej (tributaries of Indus) with the deserts of Thar. This connection brought a large area of Rajasthan under cultivation. The water from the canal enabled cultivation of mustard, wheat and cotton in the previously barren areas. In Rajasthan, the canal represents the sole water source in several areas.
Statement 3 is correct:
The canal passes through the states of Punjab, Haryana and Rajasthan. The canal improved the standard of living of many in Rajasthan. However, problems of leakage and structural damage has led to low supply coverage in the tail-end areas. Rajasthan government had previously signed loan agreements with New Development Bank for renovating the canal infrastructure. Now the government is in talks with Punjab government for relining of feeder canals.

The Kharai camels are also known as the swimming camels. It is one of the nine breeds of camel in India. It is found only in Gujarat. It is capable of swimming in the sea for up to 3km. It feeds on mangrove vegetation.
Statement 2 is incorrect:
The Camel Development Scheme is an initiative of the Rajasthan government. It was introduced in response to the camel crisis in the state. Under this scheme, the camel breeders are given a sum of 10,000 INR every time a camel calf is born. This is given in three instalments to incentivise breeding.

The Indian Meteorological department recently predicted that the 2019 winter will be warmer in the core cold wave zone of India. Rajasthan is a part of this zone. Other states adjoin it like Punjab, Haryana, Gujarat and Maharashtra are also within this zone.
Statement 2 is correct:
Telangana is one of the states in the cold wave zone. It is the only south India state. Union territories like J&K and Ladakh are also expected to experience this condition. The experts have pinned the global warming as the reason. Warm waters in the equatorial Pacific Ocean is also a contributing factor.

The Gurdwara Nankana Sahib is considered as the birth place of the first Guru of Sikhism, Guru Nanak Dev. Hence the holy site is also called Gurdwara Janam Asthan. It is one of the holiest sites for Sikh pilgrims.

The Gurdwara Nankana Sahib shrine is in the Punjab province of Pakistan. It was constructed in the 19^th century by Maharaja Ranjit Singh of the Sikh empire. It was the site of the 1921 Nankana Massacre. The holy shrine was in news over alleged mistreatment of Pakistan of its minorities.
