The ESA, established in 1975 and headquartered in Paris, coordinates space activities among member states and collaborates on projects like the International Space Station and the Rosetta mission.

World Malala Day, celebrated on July 12th, honors Malala Yousafzai’s advocacy for women’s and children’s rights. Born on July 12, 1997, in Pakistan, Malala survived a Taliban assassination attempt in 2012. She gained global recognition, speaking at the UN on her 16th birthday, being named one of TIME’s most influential people in 2013, and winning the Nobel Peace Prize in 2014. She continues her education and activism from Birmingham.

The DRDO has tasked a Bengaluru firm with developing a receiver chip for the Indian navigation system NavIC, created by ISRO. NavIC, the Indian Regional Navigation Satellite System, consists of seven satellites providing precise positioning and timing information across India and 1,500 km beyond. It offers services for civilian and defense use, with accuracy better than 10 meters in India. NavIC signals are compatible with other global navigation systems like GPS, Glonass, Galileo, and BeiDou.

Researchers at the S.N. Bose National Centre for Basic Sciences are using a Covalent Magnetic Tweezer (CMT) to investigate protein molecules and the role of chaperones in their folding. Chaperones, group of proteins, crucial for preventing misfolding and aggregation, assist in proper protein formation, particularly under stress. Major human chaperones include HSP70 and HSP90. Misfolded proteins can lead to diseases such as Parkinson’s, Alzheimer’s, and congenital cataracts, highlighting the importance of chaperones in cellular function.

Researchers from Shenyang Agricultural University published findings in Current Biology revealing that Wolbachia bacteria have manipulated the wasp Encarsia formosa to eliminate male offspring entirely. Wolbachia, present in about 60% of insects, plays a role in biological pest control. Encarsia formosa targets whitefly nymphs, laying eggs that hatch into larvae, which then kill the nymphs. This makes the wasp an effective natural enemy of whiteflies, significant agricultural pests that damage crops.
