Delhi Police traced 1,303 missing persons in the southwest district over the past year under Operation Milap, including 434 children and 869 adults. In December 2025 alone, 102 missing persons were found: 35 children and 67 adults. Operation Milap uses coordinated district-level efforts, inter-station cooperation, and consistent follow-up to trace missing persons. Local informers and hospital/police records played a key role, along with displaying photographs at bus stands, railway stations, auto and e-rickshaw points. The initiative emphasizes community participation, urban public safety, and focused tracing of children.

The Government of India launched the Export Promotion Mission with a total outlay of ₹25,060 crore for FY 2025–26 to FY 2030–31 to strengthen India’s export competitiveness. The Mission focuses on Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs), first-time exporters, labour-intensive sectors, market diversification, and value-added exports. It is jointly implemented by the Department of Commerce, Ministry of MSME, and Ministry of Finance. The Mission has two sub-schemes: NIRYAT PROTSAHAN (financial support) and NIRYAT DISHA (non-financial support). Under NIRYAT PROTSAHAN, interest subvention is provided on pre- and post-shipment rupee export credit to reduce export credit costs.

Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY) approved 22 proposals under the Electronics Components Manufacturing Scheme (ECMS). The projects have a projected investment of ₹41,863 crore and expected production of ₹2,58,152 crore. These projects cover 11 target segment products with cross-sectoral applications in mobile manufacturing, telecom, consumer electronics, strategic electronics, automotive, and IT hardware. The Electronics Components Manufacturing Scheme (ECMS) was launched by Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY) to boost domestic production of electronic components, providing incentives and fostering a robust supply chain

The National Statistics Office (NSO), under the Ministry of Statistics and Programme Implementation, released Know Your Survey: A User Guide to the Annual Survey of Unincorporated Sector Enterprises (ASUSE). It is the first user guide specifically designed to engage data users and explain ASUSE processes in a transparent, simple, and user-friendly way. ASUSE provides official statistics on India’s unincorporated non-agricultural sector, crucial for employment, livelihoods, economic output, and value chains. The guide explains survey concepts, coverage, methodology, data collection, processing, validation, estimation, and quality assurance frameworks.

The Ministry of Textiles, in collaboration with the Government of Assam, will organize the National Textiles Ministers’ Conference on 8–9 January 2026 in Guwahati, Assam. The theme is “India’s Textiles: Weaving Growth, Heritage & Innovation.” The conference will bring together Union and State Ministers of Textiles, senior government officials, and policymakers to discuss a coordinated national strategy. The goal aligns with developing a USD 350 billion textile industry and achieving USD 100 billion in textile exports by 2030.

Sjoerd Marijne has been appointed as the chief coach of the Indian women’s hockey team, announced by Hockey India. The Dutch coach previously led India to a historic fourth-place finish at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics, India’s second Olympic appearance in over 36 years. His first major assignment will be the FIH Hockey Women’s World Cup Qualifiers in Hyderabad, Telangana, from 8th to 14th March 2026.

Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma launched the Financial Assistance Scheme for Udasin Bhakats, providing ₹1,500 monthly to celibate Vaishnavite monks in Satras. Satras are monastic institutions serving as religious and cultural centres; Udasin Satras are where bhakats lead celibate lives. A total of 620 Udasin Bhakats will benefit across districts, including 474 from Majuli, 54 from Jorhat, and others from Barpeta, Dhubri, Goalpara, Golaghat, Kamrup, Lakhimpur, Nagaon, Nalbari, Sivasagar, Sonitpur, and Udalguri. Majuli, the world’s largest river island, is the core centre of Assamese Neo-Vaishnavism and Satras.

Global Family Day, also called World Peace Day, is observed every year on January 1. It promotes peace and unity worldwide and emphasizes that all people are interconnected, regardless of nationality, borders, or ethnicity. The concept began in 1997 when the UN General Assembly declared the International Decade for the Culture of Peace and Nonviolence for Children of the World. The day was first celebrated successfully in 1999 and was officially recognized by the United Nations in 2001.

Indian Farmers Fertiliser Cooperative Limited (IFFCO) conferred the IFFCO Sahitya Samman 2025 on eminent Hindi writer Maitreyi Pushpa for her outstanding contribution to Hindi literature, especially rural life and agrarian realities. The IFFCO Young Literary Award 2025 was presented to Ankita Jain for her book “Oh Re! Kisan.” Maitreyi Pushpa (born 30 Nov 1944, Aligarh) has a master’s in Hindi literature and is renowned for novels, short stories, plays, poetry, and women-centric writings. IFFCO Sahitya Samman, instituted in 2011, honors writers reflecting rural and agricultural life and carries a cash prize of ₹11 lakh, citation, and memento.

Indian Railways will introduce its first Vande Bharat Sleeper Train, upgrading overnight rail travel in India. Union Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw announced that testing and certification are fully completed. The inaugural route will run between Guwahati (Assam) and Howrah (West Bengal). The train will have 16 fully air-conditioned coaches with AC 3-tier, AC 2-tier, and AC First Class, carrying about 823 passengers. It features ergonomic berths, new suspension, and modern safety systems for comfortable overnight journeys. The service will boost regional connectivity and offer Assamese and Bengali cuisine on board.
