Notes:
India has deployed a women-only platoon of peacekeepers to the UN Mission in Abyei on the border of Sudan and South Sudan.
This is a part of the Indian Battalion in the United Nations Interim Security Force, Abyei (UNISFA). It is also the single largest deployment of women peacekeepers in recent years. India is among the largest troop-contributing countries to UN peacekeeping.

Notes:
Delhi government announced imposition of a temporary ban on plying of BS-III petrol and BS-IV diesel four-wheelers in the national capital.
The decision was in view of the worsening air quality, as it reached the severe category owning to unfavourable meteorological conditions including clam winds and low temperatures. The Commission for Air Quality Management (CAQM) directed to implement anti-pollution curbs.

MSME Minister Narayan Rane launched the web portal for the Rs 6,062.45-crore Raising and Accelerating MSME Performance (RAMP) for MSMEs.
The scheme was originally announced back in 2020 by the government and the World Bank to support Covid-hit MSMEs in the country. Out of the total scheme’s limit, Rs 3,750 crore was approved by World Bank in June 2021 while the balance would be funded by the government.

Union Road Transport and Highways Ministry observes Road Safety Week from 11th to 17th of January.
During the Week, various activities is being organised throughout the Country to create awareness among general public. Ministry will conduct several activities including Nukkad Nataks (Street Shows) and Sensitization Campaigns at various locations.

The centre has notified the Customs (Assistance in Value Declaration of Identified Imported Goods) Rules, 2023.
The rules are aimed at addressing the undervaluation of specified imported goods. The Central Board of Indirect Taxes and Customs (CBIC) will come out with a list of identified goods, which will be subject to stricter scrutiny for their true value.

The Cabinet has cleared India’s National Green Hydrogen Mission, which aims to make the country a global green hydrogen hub.
The outlay of the mission is Rs 20,000 crore and the goal is to develop a green hydrogen production capacity of at least five million metric tonnes (mmt) and an associated renewable energy capacity addition of about 125 gigawatts (GW) by 2030.

The world’s longest river cruise MV Ganga Vilas was flagged off by Prime Minister Narendra Modi in Varanasi.
Ministry of Culture organised a grand curtain raiser cultural program ‘Sur Sarita – Symphony of Ganga’ on the eve of the launch of the world’s longest river cruise in Varanasi. The concert was organsied at the Kashi Vishwanath Corridor.

India is hosting the ‘Voice of Global South Summit’. External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar addressed the Foreign Ministers’ Session at the Voice of Global South Summit.
He said that the case for a Global South-sensitive model of globalisation is becoming stronger and India stands for a shift from self-centered globalisation to one that is human-centered.

The US government has announced name changes for five places whose designations included a racist term for Native American women.
Deb Haaland, who is the first Native American cabinet secretary in US history created a task force to replace derogatory names of the nation’s geographic features. The sites are in the states of California, North Dakota, Tennessee and Texas.
