The All India Co-ordinated Research Project (AICRP) on poultry breeding, Mannuthy, under the Kerala Veterinary and Animal Science University (KVASU), bagged the ‘National breed conservation award’ for 2021.
ICAR – National Bureau of Animal Genetic Resources (NBAGR) presented the award for conservation and research activities on the Tellicherry breed. It is the only registered native chicken breed from the state of Kerala.

In the Atal Ranking of Institutions on Innovation Achievement 2021 award list released, IIT Madras was named the most innovative educational institute of India in the technical category.
IIT-M has retained the top rank for three years in a row. Kalinga Institute of Industrial Technology, College of Engineering, Pune and PSG College of Technology topped in their respective categories. Under ‘non-technical institutions’, the top central universities were IGNOU and IIM, Kozhikode.

Notes:
The Armed Forces Special Powers Act, 1958 or AFSPA legislation, has been extended in Nagaland for another six months.
The North-eastern state has been seeking to withdraw it after the alleged security operation near Oting Village in Nagaland that left 14 civilians and one jawan dead in December 2021. The law was first introduced by the British to suppress the Quit India movement in 1942.

The Indian Army has set up a ‘Quantum computing laboratory and a Centre for artificial intelligence (AI)’ at Military College of Telecommunication Engineering, Mhow, Madhya Pradesh.
The centres will carry out research in developing transformative technologies to be used by the armed forces. It has been established by the Indian Army, with support from the National Security Council Secretariat (NSCS).

The Sahitya Akademi announced a list of 22 winners of the Yuva Puraskar and the Bal Sahitya Puraskar for 2021.
The Sahitya Akademi award was separately announced for literary works in 20 languages in various categories like poetry, novels, short stories, plays, biography and autobiography, book on criticism.  Tamil feminist writer Ambai, Kannada’s DS Nagabhushan, Telugu’s Goreti Venkanna, and English author Namita Gokhale are among the winners.

Notes:
Iran has launched a satellite carrier rocket ‘Simorgh’ bearing three research devices into space, as per the country’s media.
‘Simorgh’ translates to ‘Phoenix’ in Iran language. The country has launched the devices at an altitude of 470 kilometres (290 miles). United States unilaterally withdrew from the nuclear deal in May 2018 and re-imposed sanctions against Iran.

The world’s population is projected to be 7.8 billion people, as on New Year’s Day 2022, according to the US Census Bureau.
This represents an increase of 74 million people, or a 0.9% growth rate from New Year’s Day 2021. 4.3 births and two deaths are expected every second worldwide. China remains the world’s most-populous country with 1.4 billion people and India would overtake it by 2025.

Indian solar power producer Azure Power has fully commissioned its largest project, a 600-MW solar park in the state of Rajasthan.
The independent Power producer now owns and operates India’s largest solar power project at a single location. The solar park is located in Bikaner and is connected to the Interstate Transmission System (ISTS). It will supply its power to Solar Energy Corporation of India (SECI) over 25 years.

Notes:
Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan launched National Educational Alliance for Technology NEAT 3.0.
It is a single platform to provide best quality ed-tech solutions and courses to students of the country. The Minister also launched AICTE prescribed technical books in regional languages. It uses Artificial intelligence for a personalised learning experience for better learning outcomes.

Notes:
‘Seema Bhawani’ is the all-women biker team of the Border Security Force (BSF). The team will showcase their talent on the Republic Day.
Over 100 female troops from different ranks are taking part in the event. Seema Bhawani team was formed in the year 2016 and they participated in the Republic Day parade in 2018, for the first time.
