The Sanyasi Revolt (1772), also known as the Fakir-Sanyasi Rebellion, took place at Murshidabad and Baikunthupur forests of Jalpaigurii in West Bengal. The immediate cause of the revolt was that the British government restricted people from visiting holy places. Then, Sanyasis and Fakirs along with farmers, evicted landlords, disbanded soldiers revolted against the British. But, the revolt was mercilessly crushed by the British.
