Muhammad bin Tughluq
Feroz Shah Tughlaq founded Jaunpur in 1359 and named it in honor of his cousin and predecessor, Muhammad bin Tughluq. The city later flourished as an independent sultanate and was called Sheeraz-e-Hind. The act of naming it after Muhammad bin Tughluq reflected both a tribute to the former Sultan and the continuation of Tughluq rule in the region. Jaunpur became notable in medieval Indian history for its cultural and architectural achievements.
