PARAKH RS 2025

The 2025 PARAKH RS (Performance Assessment, Review, and Analysis of Knowledge for Holistic Development Rashtriya Sarvekshen) results have brought into light the school education performance across India. This large-scale survey assessed over 21 lakh students from Grades 3, 6, and 9 in 74,229 schools across 781 districts. The focus was on language, mathematics, science, social science, and environmental understanding. The findings show clear regional disparities and subject-wise strengths and weaknesses.
PARAKH RS Assessment
PARAKH RS evaluated students in language and mathematics for Grades 3, 6, and 9; “The World Around Us” for Grades 3 and 6; and science and social science for Grade 9. Over 2.7 lakh teachers and school leaders also participated through questionnaires. The survey aimed to measure learning outcomes and identify gaps in school education across India.
Top Performing States and Districts
Punjab, Himachal Pradesh, Kerala, Dadra and Nagar Haveli and Daman & Diu, and Chandigarh emerged as the best performing states and union territories. Grade-wise, Punjab, Himachal Pradesh, and Kerala led in Grade 3; Kerala, Punjab, and Dadra and Nagar Haveli and Daman & Diu topped Grade 6; and Punjab, Kerala, and Chandigarh excelled in Grade 9. Low performing districts were mainly in Jharkhand, Jammu and Kashmir, Meghalaya, and Arunachal Pradesh.
Subject-wise Student Performance
In Grade 3 language, 67% of students used sufficient vocabulary for daily interaction and could infer meanings of new words. Sixty percent could read and comprehend short stories and 61% understood simple informational texts. In mathematics, 68% could group objects by multiple properties, and 69% identified patterns. However, only 55% arranged numbers correctly and 54% understood multiplication and division concepts.
Grade 6 Learning Outcomes
Only 54% of Grade 6 students understood the Indian place value system and large numbers. Problem-solving skills were weak, with 38% solving daily-life puzzles using numbers. Fraction understanding was low at 29%. Measurement and estimation skills stood at 42%. Environmental awareness was moderate, with 44% identifying natural and social components and 38% making predictions about observed patterns. Over half could explain local institutions’ roles.
Grade 9 Academic
In Grade 9, 45% understood the Constitution and Indian national movement ideals. Reading comprehension was at 54%. Number system knowledge was limited, with only 31% grasping complex number sets and 28% applying percentages. Scientific understanding was modest; 37% explained phenomena related to pressure and temperature, and one-third demonstrated basic electrical concepts. Biological knowledge was mixed, with 47% describing biodiversity but only 34% differentiating living from non-living things. Awareness of adolescent biological changes was at 37%.
School Type Performance Variations
Kendriya Vidyalayas showed the lowest mathematics scores in Grade 3 but performed best overall in Grade 9, particularly in language. Government-aided and state government schools had weaker mathematics performance in Grade 6. These variations indicate differing educational challenges across school types.
