World Pneumonia Day: 12 November

On 12 November, the world observes World Pneumonia Day. World Pneumonia Day is being marked every year since 2009. The day was hosted by the Global Coalition against Child Pneumonia for the first time in 2009. This year the theme for World Pneumonia Day is “healthy lungs for all” to raise awareness, promote prevention and treatment and produce action to combat the disease. This year, global organizations have come together and created an initiative “Stop Pneumonia”. It includes WHO, UNICEF, ISGlobal, Save the Children, etc. According to an article published in The Lancet, “Every 2 minutes three children will die from pneumonia, the leading infectious cause of child mortality globally, killing more children than diarrhoea and malaria combined.”
