Parliament passes three bills

Parliament has passed three bills in ongoing winter session. These bills were passed by the Rajya Sabha without discussion after they were earlier passed by Lok Sabha.
These 3 bills are

  • Arbitration and Conciliation (Amendment) Bill, 2015: Facilitates an arbitrator will have to settle a case within 18 months. After the completion of 1 year, certain restrictions will be put in place to ensure that the arbitration case does not linger on. Read more
  • Atomic Energy (Amendment) Bill, 2015: Empowers the Union government to produce, develop, use and control atomic energy. Read more
  • The Commercial Courts, Commercial Division and Commercial Appellate Division of High Courts Bill, 2015: Enables the creation of commercial divisions in High courts and commercial courts at the district level.
  • Proposes to set up Commercial Appellate Divisions in all High courts to hear appeals against the orders of commercial divisions of High Courts, commercial courts and also appeals arising from arbitration matters that are filed before the High courts.
