Notes:
SEBI’s board recently cleared a proposal for setting up a ‘Gold exchange’ and a ‘Social Stock Exchange’. In the Gold Exchange, the metal will be traded in the form of Electronic Gold Receipts (EGRs) and they will be notified as securities.
Any recognised stock exchange, existing as well as new, can launch trading in EGRs. Vault manager should be a body incorporated in India, registered with SEBI and should have a net worth of at least Rs 50 crore. The social stock exchange will be operated for fundraising by social enterprises.

United Nations International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD) has recently released a report titled ‘Transforming Food Systems for Rural Prosperity’.
The report recommended several concrete actions to be taken by governments and policymakers. It said that the Global food systems need a huge revolution, in a more inclusive, fair and sustainable way. As per the report, Food systems are responsible for 37 per cent of greenhouse gas emissions and also highly vulnerable to a changing climate.

The national Mid-Day Meal Scheme has been renamed as PM POSHAN Scheme. Involvement of Farmers Producer Organizations (FPO) and Women Self Help Groups in implementation of the scheme are also mentioned in the new features.
The Union Cabinet approved the ‘PM POSHAN in Schools’ scheme that will provide hot cooked meal to students of elementary classes in government and government-aided schools across the country. It will also cover students of balvatikas or pre-primary classes.

The Asian Development Bank (ADB) has approved a $251 million loan for urban flood protection and management in the Chennai–Kosasthalaiyar river basin in the state of Tamil Nadu.
The project will establish climate-resilient urban flood protection infrastructure in the region. It will construct 588 kilometers (km) of new stormwater drains, rehabilitate or replace 175 km of stormwater drains among others. Chennai’s rapid urbanization has made the city vulnerable to widespread flooding.

Lucy is a mission of the USA’s NASA, to study Jupiter’s Trojan asteroids. This is set to provide new insights into the solar system’s formation 4.5 billion years ago
The probe is named Lucy after an ancient fossil that provided insights into the evolution of human species. It is set to be launched on October 16 from Cape Canaveral Space Force Station in Florida. It will have a 12-year journey to eight different asteroids- one in the Main Belt between Mars and Jupiter and seven Trojans.

Prompt Corrective Action (PCA) refers to the watchlist of weak banks, by the Reserve Bank of India. The regulator imposes restrictions like curbs on lending among others, on such banks.
The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has recently removed Indian Overseas Bank from the Prompt Corrective Action Framework. The bank was placed under the PCA framework in 2015. On the basis of the published financial results for 2020-21, the Board for Financial Supervision, found that the bank has not breached PCA parameter.

Notes:
Canada observed its first National Day for Truth and Reconciliation on September 30. It is an annual commemoration honouring the children who died while attending residential schools.
It united the survivors, families and communities still affected by the legacy of the residential school system. In 2017, a private member’s bill was introduced to make National Day for Truth and Reconciliation an official holiday. Recently, hundreds of potential burial sites and unmarked graves were discovered near former residential schools.

The Cabinet of Assam has recently approved a sum of Rs 1,800 crore towards repayment of micro finance loans taken by 11 lakh borrowers of the state.
In addition, the cabinet has also approved a sum of Rs, 700 crore as a relief package for employees of the defunct paper mills of the PSU Hindustan Paper Corp (HPC).

 

Notes:
The All India Institute of Ayurveda (AIIA), under the aegis Union Ayush Ministry has developed an immunity booster kit for children named “Bal Raksha Kit”, which can be consumed by children upto the age of 16 years. This can be undertaken by the children till the time vaccine is available for COVID 19 disease.
The Ministry has planned that, on National Ayurveda Day (November 2), 10,000 Bal Raksha kits would be distributed free-of-cost.

 

Notes:
LORROS stands for Long Range Reconnaissance and Observation System, which is a sensor system to provide for long-range day-time and night-time surveillance. It is used by the national security forces like the Indian Army, to counter infiltration.
LORROS has been in the news recently, as an expert panel has cleared a revised technical requirement for implementation of the technology by Border Security Force and Indo-Tibetan Border Police.
