Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva has won Brazil’s presidential election by a small margin of 2 million votes thereby defeating incumbent Jair Bolsonaro.
Although the Left-wing former leader Lula wins presidency, incumbent far-right contender Jair Bolsonaro has not conceded his defeat yet. The election marked the first time that the sitting president failed to win re-election.

Union Education Ministry has recently signed MoU with FIFA and AIFF for implementing ‘Football4Schools’ initiative in India.
‘Football4Schools’ program is expected to be a positive tool to inspire children and ensure their holistic development, by main-streaming sports along with studies.

Indian pair of Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty clinched the French Open Super 750 title with a straight-game victory over Chinese Taipei in the men’s doubles final.
Satwik and Chirag, who were the runners-up in the 2019 edition, have won the Indian Open super 500, Commonwealth Games gold, Thomas Cup and World Championships bronze. They have also won world tour titles such as hte 2019 Thailand Open and the 2022 Indian Open.

The ‘Global Climate Observing System (GCOS)’ conference was organised in Darmstadt, Germany. It was hosted by Exploitation of Meteorological Satellites (EUMETSAT) and co-sponsored by the World Meteorological Organization (WMO), Intergovernmental Oceanographic Commission of UNESCO, UNEP, and International Science Council.
As per the declaration of the conference, sustainable and long-term funding is essential to ensure the continuity and expansion of observations.

Seven states – including Chhattisgarh, Punjab, Haryana, Madhya Pradesh, Karnataka, Kerala and Andhra Pradesh and Union territories of Chandigarh, Lakshadweep and Puducherry are marking their anniversaries on November 1.
Chhattisgarh, which was carved out of Madhya Pradesh, hosted a National Tribal Dance festival to celebrate its 22nd state anniversary.

Union Minister of Commerce and Industry Piyush Goyal had a virtual meeting with his Australian counterpart.
The Meeting was held to discuss the status of ratification of IndAus ECTA (India-Australia Economic Cooperation and Trade Agreement), which was signed in April 2022. The pact’s early implementation was also deliberated upon.

The Central Board of Direct Taxes (CBDT) has invited stakeholder comments on the proposed new common ITR form.
At present, taxpayers are required to furnish their Income-tax Returns in various forms including ITR-1 to ITR-7 depending upon the type of person and nature of income.  The draft proposes to introduce a common ITR by merging all the existing returns of income except ITR-7.

India gifted 200 vehicles to the Nepalese government for logistical support the smooth conduct of the general elections, to be held this month.
Nepal, which is set to hold elections for the federal Parliament as well as the provincial assemblies had requested the Indian government for the vehicles. Out of the 200 vehicles, 120 are for the security forces while 80 vehicles are for the Election Commission of Nepal.

According to a report by the India Exim Bank, India has recently become a major exporter of defence products and will be able to meet Africa’s needs in maritime, aerospace, and defence sectors.
According to the report, Mauritius, Mozambique, and Seychelles together accounted for 6.6% of India’s arms exports to Africa between 2017-2021. India was the 23rd largest exporter of defence goods from 2017-2021.

The Defence Research & Development Organisation (DRDO) conducted a successful maiden flight-test of Phase-II Ballistic Missile Defence (BMD) interceptor AD-1 missile.
The missile was tested with large kill altitude bracket from APJ Abdul Kalam Island off the coast of Odisha. The AD-1 is a long-range interceptor missile designed for both low exo-atmospheric and endo-atmospheric interception of long-range ballistic missiles as well as aircraft.
