Life Expectancy in India

The current Life Expectancy in INDIA is 65 years. It has improved from 40 years in 1951 to 65 at present. The implication is that the population of the elderly has augmented 4 times. The count of senior citizens over the 60 was over 76 million per 2001 Census and now it is expected to reach over 170 million by 2026. Maintenance and Welfare of Parents and Senior Citizens Act which entitles senior citizens to claim maintenance from their children, is an effectual step towards the rising incidents of elderly abuse vastly due to speedy urbanization and thus rising trend of nuclear families.
