“James Wright Foley- An Extraordinary Son”: a mother’s tribute

James Wright Foley was an American journalist who was recently beheaded in Iraq by militants of Islamic State in their retaliation against the American bombardment and interference in their internal affairs. The incident has sent shock waves around the world and US is appalled. UN chief Ban ki Moon has also condemned the killing in strong words. Expressing his deepest condolences to the family, he stressed that such barbaric criminals must be brought to justice.
ISIS had released a video showing his beheading and in which he was forced to pass the blame of his death to US government. Foley who was covering Civil War in Syria had gone missing in November 2012 and there was news reports of him being kept near Damascus. His parents have confirmed his death on his Facebook page which reads as
“We have never been prouder of our son Jim. He gave his life trying to expose the world to the suffering of the Syrian people. We implore the kidnappers to spare the lives of the remaining hostages. Like Jim, they are innocents. They have no control over American government policy in Iraq, Syria or anywhere in the world. We thank Jim for all the joy he gave us. He was an extraordinary son, brother, journalist and person. Please respect our privacy in the days ahead as we mourn and cherish Jim.”
His parents in a media talk told the world that they were proud of their son and were sure that he is free now and is resting in hands of God. They cherished him and stated that Foley was a very gentle and peace-loving man. She also pleaded the ISIS to spare the lives of other journalists being kept as hostages as they have no role or control in US government policy decisions or directions Family has requested privacy in such calling times. Foley was the 70th journalist to be killed ever since the Syrian crisis started. US President Mr. Barack Obama also has called on the Foleys to pay his condolences to the family.
US has however continued with the airstrikes near Mosul Dam to reportedly provide cover to Kurdish and Iraqi forces aiming towards south-west hills.
