India-Sweden to sign their First Maritime Cooperation Agreement

India and Sweden are expected to sign the agreement for Cooperation in Polar Science during the Swedish Royal Couple, King Carl XVI Gustaf and Queen Silvia, along with their senior minister’s five-day visit to India starting today, December 2, 2019.

This marks the third visit to India of the Swedish King, first was in 1993 and second in 2005. The Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) has been in work for some time and is being prepared for both Arctic and Antarctic.

This would be the 4th High-level meeting between the two countries since 2015 as the Swedish King will meet President Ram Nath Kovind and Prime Minister Narendra Modi to further boost bilateral and multilateral issues based on mutual interest.

India-Sweden bilateral trade was estimated to be around USD 3.37 billion in 2018.
