India s first ever international FIFA sanctioned Football Match at YBK
Recently, the name of Yuba Bharati Krirangan (YBK) (Salt Lake Stadium) of Kolkata was etched in the history as the ground hoested India s first ever international FIFA sanctioned friendly. The one lakh capacity stadium, which went through a major facelift for the historical tie between Argentina and Venezuela on September two, witnessed to be beaming with soccer-crazy spectators craving to see magical Messi and his team in action.
The Salt Lake Stadium is known to host the home games of local clubs Mohun Bagan., Kingfisher East Bengal., Prayag United. and Mohammedan.
On June 5th 2011 FIFA sanctioned a match to be played at Salt Lake on September 2nd 2011. The match was scheduled to be played between the football sides of Argentina and Venezuela.
The match ended with Argentina wining the game 1–0 with Nicolás Otamendi scoring the only goal in the 67th minute from a Lionel Messi corner.
