India ranked 129th in 2019 UNDP Human Development Index

The United Nations Development Programme(UNDP) has ranked India at 129th place among 189 countries in its 2019 Human Development Index(HDI). The UNDP HDI is a geometric mean of normalized indices for three dimensions- long and healthy life( life expectancy index), knowledge (education index) and a decent standard of living (GNI index).
According to the Index:
India’s life expectancy at birth is 69.4 years, expected years of schooling- 12.3 years and with Gross National Income (GNI) per capita at 6,829 was ranked at 129th place in the index,
HDI values of India over the years have been: 2000-0.497, 2010-0.581, 2015-0.627, 2018-0.647.
India was ranked at 130th place in last year’s UNDP HDI. India has lifted over 27.1 crore people out of poverty between 2005-06 to 2015-16.
