16th Census of India to be conducted in 16 languages

Registrar General and Census Commissioner of India under the Ministry of Home Affairs will be conducting the 16th Census of India in 2021 in 16 languages. The expected expenditure is estimated to be around Rs. 8754 crores by the Finance Committee.
It will be conducted in 2 phases- first House-listing and housing census from April to September 2020 and the actual population enumeration in the month of February 2021, will be followed by a revision round in March 2021.
Census 2021 will be conducted through a smartphone application for which 330000 enumerators will be enlisted and encouraged to use to a smartphone application, although a pen-paper option will also be available to boost Government of India’s ‘Digital India’ initiative, moving away from the traditional pen-paper will be encouraged.
