10 November: World Science Day for Peace and Development

The World Science Day for Peace and Development is celebrated every year on 10 November. The purpose of day is to renew national as well as international commitment to science for peace and development. It also seeks to stress responsible use of science for benefit of society. ‎The theme for 2017 is “Science for Global Understanding“. It highlights significant role of science in society and need to engage wider public in debates on emerging scientific issues.  ‎It aims to ensure that citizens are kept informed of developments in science.

Objectives of World Science Day for Peace and Development

  • ‎Promote national and international solidarity for shared science between countries.
  • ‎Strengthen public awareness on role of science for peaceful and sustainable societies.
  • Renew national and international commitment for use of science for benefit of societies.
  • ‎Draw attention to challenges faced by science and raising support for the scientific endeavour.
