African Elephant

African elephants, the largest land animals on Earth, comprises of two species – Savanna elephants and forest elephants. While Savanna elephants are larger animals living in Sub-Saharan Africa, the forest elephants are comparatively smaller animals living in the Central and West African forests. Poaching and habitat loss led to Savanna elephants and forest elephants to be categorised under ‘endangered’ and ‘critically endangered’ respectively by the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN) on March 25 this year.
